Bill: Bill LP-020: Fair Elections Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal Party of Hutori

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 5092

Description[?]:

Mr. Speaker,

Hutorians deserve the right to choose their government more than once every five years. The lack of consistent elections calls our democracy into question, and I implore all parties to support a reduction in the period between elections. The Liberals propose elections be held every four years (48 months), but we are open to considering even shorter periods between elections, for instance, 3.5 years (42 months).

MP for Carter City Skyview
Leader of the Liberal Party

MessageMr. speaker,

democracy call for frequency, do the minds of our people only change every 5 years? or even 4? I would recommend going down to the 3.5 years as it seems reasonable that 3 and a half years will be enough time to see if the people like a government.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Progressive Conservatives support this Bill as written. Four years between elections has been the historic standard in Hutorian politics, and we believe restoring that standard would be the right decision.

Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party
