Bill: Term Time Extension
Details
Submitted by[?]: Freedom Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2070
Description[?]:
A bill to change the current length of time between terms from 24 to 36. Currently we have an election every two years (4 Real Life Days). This can be seen to be too often and lead to apathy. I suggest that we extend the time by 12 months so that we hold frequent elections but they do not interfere with government as they currently do. At the moment we have to get new legislation to vote with in a year and a third of the last election (16 months) or it wont pass. This leaves little time for debate and discussion. We need a longer time between elections. |
Proposals

Message | I'm against, having elections every 24 months makes the government and the politicians more accountable to the people, and it doesn't lead to apathy. On the contrary, the citizens will be more interested in politics because they feel more involved. |

Message | All i have to say is that our turnout for elections recently is under 60%. One of themwas just over 50%. |

Message | The electorate, by having elections so often, is experiencing electoral fatigue. If we have them every 36 months, (6 real life days) then terms will be longer and the electorate will not be fed up with voting every two years. If turnout fails to increase, i will vote for elections to move back to 24 or 30 months. |
