Message | The suggestion that regulation is best done by the state is false. Adoption agencies stand or fall on their reputation and they will not succeed if they give babies to psycho parents. The idea that the state can do a better job of evaluation prospective parents is wrong. I have responded to your arguments in other debates. I'm not pursuing hit and run tactics, but I'm not connected 24x7 so sometimes there is a time delay between one person posting and another person having an opportunity to respond. |

Message | If profit is all ppl see, then they'll sell their baby to the highest biding agency, and the agency will sell it to the highest biding psycho. Why will those agencies fall? |

Message | The important point is your use of the word "If". Nobody is suggesting that profit (and by profit you mean short-term profit) is all people see, at least nobody except socialists with their peculiar perception of what capitalism is. If you try to put your instinctive hostility to capitalism to one side for a moment, can you imagine any problem with a business predicated on selling babies to psychos? Would you sell your baby to such a baby vendor? Would most parents? How long is the psycho-baby agency going to stay in business with such a reputation? Capitalists need to be able to see a bit further into their business' future than socialists when they caricature capitalists. Most businesses want to be able to continue to make profits into the future and that generally means not completely alienating all their potential suppliers. Indeed, you have yourself identified that those agencies will fall. The agencies that do not sell to psychos will succeed in their place. |
