| With the aid of the new budget that will hopefully pass, Beluzia will have one of the most impressive defence budgets in the World and should at last be able to defend itself properly. We hope that a dramatic increase in Beluzian Defence Forces will stop anyone thinking about invading and decimate anyone foolish enough to do so. If this bill passes all males who are fit to serve in the military will have to, for a period of 8 months between the age of 17 and 24 and then do up to 3 and a half weeks service each year until they reach the age of 48. They will be paid full military wages during this time. Women will also be asked to do a similar 8 months training and can be called to do up to 3 until the age of 38 - unless they should become a mother, in which case they are excused from duty for the rest of their life unless they personally choose to continue. Men and women shall serve in seperate units and in times of war male units will be called to action before female units. Presuming that males in this age bracket make up around 18% of the population, there would be over 12.5 million potential, soldiers with a figure of approximately 10.6 million (85%) eligible for service. At a guess a figure of women eligible for service could be around 2.5 million. These would make up the total number of Beluzian reservists and can serve in the navy and airforce although the vast majority would be enroled in the army. This army of reservists has the advantage of being massive but relative to a conventional force of the same size - very cheap. It would also be necessary for Beluzia to maintain a force of regulars and the PAL suggest around figure of around 600,000 which would comprise solely of males taking the total number of male reservists down to 10 million. So the Beluzian military would look as follows: Full-time regulars: 600,000 Part-time reservists (male): 10,000,000 Part-time reservists (female): 2,500,000 With these forces, Beluzia would undoubtably command the largest military power in the World. |
