Bill: Free Contraceptives Act of 2238

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Socialist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 2239

Description[?]:

Although the price of contraceptives is currently relatively low Ikradon, the DSP feels that providing them for free would better ensure their usage, especially amongst younger age group. To this end we propose that condoms and contraceptive bills are to be provided free of charge in places where they can be easily obtained.

MessageWe initially support this, although we would like to hear why the well off deserve free contraceptives too?

MessageHow are you prosing to oversee who is actually given the contraceptives? Asking the customer in a pharmacy for his or her tax card, or placing a guard by the condom-machine in a public bathroom to fullfill the same function?

Such measures would be extremely impractical to enforce, and be inequal (albeit admittedly in very unusual way).

MessageWe found that free contraceptives were being misused; thus, we adopted the current policy. The "considerable discount" is built into the prices seen in pharmacies and public dispensers.

MessageSo I observed when looking at the previous resolutions. However, we feel that we can stand a little loss for a good cause.

(OOC, was there anything to base the misuse on, by game terms, or did you just think it up? Because if you did, I could have just as easily cooked up a story of alarmingly raising rates of teenage pregnancies to back up my proposal).

MessageThe IPC's predecessor party once backed a similar measure, and we would be glad to back this again.

MessageOOC: I think the Neoretropostmodernist Party came up with the scenario, and we all accepted it. I could be wrong, though.

MessageWe will support. Although there could be slight complications, this would have an overall good effect on the nation's health. This would also mean less abortions, which parties here oppose.

MessageOOC: I was the one who 'made up' that free condoms were being used to make balloons and the contraceptive pill was being used as currency in poker games, I believe. :-D

No! We should not interfere with the natural course of nature! Young people should be encouraged to have children, such is the only way to keep our economy thriving and our country safe.

MessageThe IPC supports contraception, as the alternative is more abortions or unwanted children. Our adoption system can handle a certain level of unwanted children easily, but to minimize this in a way that makes abortion rare, it may be necessary to accept certain inefficiencies.

Random fact: When it comes to creating a Cultural Protocol in a Culturally Open nation, players are not necessarily required to provide a plausible backstory for how the nation's cultural background developed. However, the provision of a plausible backstory may be a factor in whether Moderation approves the Cultural Protocol if players in surrounding nations question its appropriateness for their region of the game map.
