MessageMr. Speaker

I rise to oppose the reintroduction of National Service. The Selective Service Act currently on the book already ensures that in times of war, we have conscription to swell the ranks of our Armed Forces. Further does Hutori have any modern enemies? Terra and very specifically Macon has gone through the longest continuous period of peace and stability that we've known in centuries. Is this government admitting that the Hutorian Armed Forces are currently not capable of defending our nation?

MessageMr Speaker,

National service is an abhorrent, barbaric and troglodytic practice which we did away with long ago. I do not believe that backroom detailings between the Prime Minister and our President should feed into wider policy, namely given that combines the positions of head of state and head of government into an unfiltered and uncontrollable mess. I think that crucial detail of why this bill was introduced is enough to oppose it outright.

However, the concept of national service is plainly not one which leads to a strong military. It is one which forcibly conscripts ordinary citizens, many of whom are not naturally built for regiment or battalion, and thus forces them into an unenviable position where they are being ordered under duress to defend our nation in conflict. This is not a mindset which leads to military successes, instead it is a bullish act during peacetime which will only seek to concern our allies and heighten the alarm of those who we are not so closely allied with.

I urge those who are able to do so to oppose this bill.

Richard Lyon,

ForwardHutori Spokesperson for Defence.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Capacity to defend is always relative. The current peacetime, no matter how long it has lasted for, could be broken at any moment. We can't be too cautious, it's the survival of our nation that is at stake.World war could be at our door. We can defend ourselves against one nation, but could we defend ourselves against a whole all coalition of enemies? It's hard to tell. In any case, we need to be ready.

The comments from other party about the morality of this bill are compelling, yet futile. When enemy troops will be marching on Bekenial, will it matter that is was immoral to force hutorian to serve our millitary? No, it won't. What matter is the survival of our nation. The continuity of our civilization.

The world is a dangerous place and it is time for Forward Hutori and the senator from Acton-Groomsbridge to realise it.

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically

Random quote: “Where would the weapons and equipment come from once you've banned the defence industry? Will we be defended by all your hippy people hurling potatoes and cabbages?” - Margaret Woodhall, former Dranian politician
