Message | To those parties opposed: Explain how denying Ikradonis access to the diverse selection of the global marketplace in any way helps the people, the nation, or the environment. |

Message | Nature should not be tampered with. It was never intended for us to tinker with the genetic bricks of our food. Nature provides as it does, and we are to accept it as it comes. We oppose. |

Message | We are uncertain as to the long-term effects of consuming genetically modified foods. We'd rather not take the risk of health complications among our population in the future. Although, if Ikradoni agriculture remains under complete state control for too long, we may have no choice but to increase our food imports. In that case, we would support this proposal. |

Message | Indeed... It took me a while, though. By the way, if the consensus of the other parties is the "Ikradonian" should be the adjective to refer to our nation, the IPC would not mind editing its party name accordingly. Regarding the substantive points raised, the IPC believes that it is the business of the citizen what to put in her or his body. We reject the idea that the state's intrest in a healhy population overrides a free, informed choice. Therefore, the IPC remains opposed to the ban, in the name of diversity and freedom. |

Message | Certainly, we agree that the ability of individuals to choose for themselves should be maximized. However, in the case of highly technical fields such as genetically modified foods and their potential physiological effects, it is too much to demand that the average citizen be sufficiently well-versed in the specifics of medicine, biology, and agriculture to make a truly informed decision for himself. This is made more difficult in the case of food, which is essential to our subsistence, unlike other areas in which we typically emphasize the right to "choose" (i.e. tobacco, alcohol, drugs, etc.). In conditions such as these, trusting the advice of experts and forming policy based on such advice seems to be the best course of action. As of yet, the FFP feels that no convincing consensus has developed regarding the safety of genetically-modified foods. Out of caution, we urge the continuation of our current ban on its sale. OOC: And the deal with the multiple post was not that I wanted to correct the "Ikradoni"/"Ikradonian" thing. The server stopped responding halfway through my loading the page, so I went back to repost it, and realized that I've usually used "Ikradonian" to refer to things that aren't people. It was only later that I realized that both attempts were posted. |

Message | What sense does it make, to ban local production but allow imports? We're voting against this anyway, but if you're okay with imported GM food why not local production as well? |
Date | 05:30:05, June 15, 2006 CET | From | Iqembu Sokusebenzisana Yeningi | To | Debating the Diversity in Food Imports Act |
Message | The idea is to allow choice in the marketplace, while not risking the spread of modified genes by cross-pollination. |

Message | So we allow others to suffer damage we're not prepared to suffer from? We reject this selfish nationalism. |
Date | 21:55:09, June 15, 2006 CET | From | Liberal Conservative | To | Debating the Diversity in Food Imports Act |
Message | Considering the risk of cross polonation, I can understand the restrictions on production within our borders, but I agree with the IPC in that we should deny access to the products when imported as that interferes with freedom of choice. |

Random fact: Periodically, it is a good idea to go through your nation's Treaties and arrange to withdraw from any that are unwanted. |
