Dankuk has a long, diverse, and rich history. Little information is available about the peninsulaโ€™s earliest inhabitants, known as the Proto-Dan Peoples (IRL: Tungusic-Speaking Peoples), who are believed to have settled the area around the 13th Century BCE. They have no direct descendants, but as archeological evidence shows a striking similarity with later Kyo and Penru practices, they are speculated to have split and married into the Penru and Kyo ethnicities in later years.
Migrations from Eastern Dovani introduced the indigenious Penru people to the region by the 8th Century BCE. By the 5th Century BCE, the nomadic Proto-Kyo had come to the peninsula and split up. Some went north and continued to be nomads, whereas others settled in the southern, fertile Pan River valley, establishing numerous small chiefdoms and cities. The Kyo foundation myth begins circa 203 BCE, when the mythical ruler Danseon Wanggeom (IRL: Dangun Wanggeom) descended to Kongtusan mountain and founded the nation of Kyonara. Kyonara existed in various forms, the largest being the Balyeong state, before suddenly collapsing due to a cataclysmic invasion (likely of Penru origins) in the year 458 CE.
Kyo civilization entered a dark age in which only 5 city states survived, but eventually large-scale sedentary civilization reestablished itself. As the centuries went by, numerous kingdoms were established. The most prevalent of these were the Kyo "Three Kingdoms" of Seungchae in the north, Pyeonghae in the west, and Gongmangdo in the south. The Penru had also eventually established two confederacies, the self-reliant Deginngu Confederacy (allied with Pyeonghae), and the heavily Kyo-influenced Anngu Confederacy (allied with Gongmangdo). By the end, a victorious Gongmangdo united the peninsula under one banner in 756 CE under the leadership of Taejo of Bae, otherwise known as Baek Gu the Great, himself a descendant of Danseon Wanggeom. He married his descendants with the Penru rulers of the former Anggu Confederacy and the northern Kyo rulers of Seungchae, thus creating the new Baek Dynasty. This independent kingdom, known as Daehwabaeguk (Baeguk for short, now known as Gobae), largely enjoyed peace and prosperity throughout the years.
Gobae achieved various cultural and scientific heights; inventing the Kyo script, Baegul, in 762 and the water clock in 970. Diplomatically, Gobae was initially independent but became a Indralan and then Gao-Sotoan tributary state following the conversion of the kings from the native religion to Jienism in 888. Peace was maintained for centuries with the exception of the 1236 Yangbyeon disturbance, and the 1592 Imjin Akran (IRL: Imjin Waeran) that saw Gao-Soto invade Gobae. Gobae repelled the invasion and declared complete independence with the Sohwa Ordinance of 1634, but this resulted in court chaos and despotism.
By 1871, Gobae was opened up and forced to sign unequal treaties by both Egelion and Aloria after the arrival of thousands of colonists from the growing western nations. The Alorian imperialists managed to convert the vast majority of indigenious Penru people to their culture and language, leading to the creation of a "Draddwyr" identity that would persist for years. In 1897, the last independent king of Baeguk, Wangjong, was deposed, and replaced with his son, Mihwa, who was pro-Egelian. Upset by these developments, the Alorian Empire attempted to stage a counter-coup and declared the Empire of Bae, establishing a puppet government under King Mihwa's brother, Emperor Baek Kyunghwa. After a long proxy conflict, the Alorian-backed empire was squashed and all Alorians were expelled from the peninsula. King Mihwa took on the Egelian name Antonio Cristรณbal Alba de Almera, and signed a treaty agreeing to annex Baeguk into Egelion at the time of his death. King Antonio Cristobal died in 1910; Baeguk was subsequently annexed by Egelion as the new Vice-Royalty of Drania was established.
The Vice-Royalty lasted until 2049, in the midst of the Second Egelian Civil War when the creole Draniano population rebelled in a bid to gain their freedom. The independent Draniano Republic was established, but it was crushed by 2061 and the Egelian Commonwealth resumed ownership of Drania under a new government, the Governor Generalship.
Drania would gain independence in 2177, leading to the formation of the Republic of Dranland. Dranland, dominated by the Penru (still Alorian-speaking and known as 'Draddwyr') and Dranianos, would have periods of monarchism although most of its history was signified by the multicultural republic. The longest of the republics would be the Fourth Republic, lasting 254 years before rising ethnic tensions between the Draddwyr, Dranianos, and Kyo would explode into widespread violence and a military coup. The sixth and final republic would be characterized by a period of calm following these events, up until the eruption of Kyo ultranationalism that brought the Great Kyo Revolution of 3608. The revolution would establish the nation of Dankuk as a modern sovereign Kyo state. The revolution of 3608 is considered the modern birth of Dankuk as a nation-state, although changes, drastic and minute alike, have occurred since then.

Cultural influences from the real world should be primarily Korean for the Kyo and Evenk/Tungusic for the Penru.

Please note that, given their special RP status, the Draniano people are a unique Creole culture that only exist in the Particracy universe. Visual inspiration has traditionally come from Filipino people, but please note that the Dranianos have NO actual Filipino cultural analogue in the real world. Instead, exercise caution and best judgement to approximate what a mixed race Korean culture with historical Hispanic and Catholic influences may develop over the years given the circumstances.

The Kyo call the area they inhabit by a variety of names; the most common being Dankuk, Chan-guk, Kyo-ban-do, or Baeguk. The Kyo were a previously nomadic ethnic group, loosely related to the Penru, that settled on the Bae Peninsula around the 5th Century BCE; some intermarried with the now-extinct Proto-Dan peoples. Their political and cultural status has fluctuated over the centuries. The Kyo heartland is in the southwest and northeast.

The Draniano merged following the arrival of Egelian colonists in the late 17th Century CE. Though originally a Creole people of Egelians and Kyo, the Draniano have since developed a unique culture. Recent linguistic developments have led to increased Kyo influence and loan vocabulary in the Draniano language. The Draniano heartland is in the northwest, near the city of Sinsu (Gran Norte).

The Penru people had a recurring ancient role on the Peninsula - with anthropological evidence pinning their entry into the peninsula to be roughly around the 8th Century BCE. It is believed that the Penru are loosely related to the Kyo people through their mutual connections to the Proto-Dan peoples through DNA evidence. As the Kyo settled the peninsula in the 5th Century BCE, the Penru became more concentrated in the north and eastern areas of the region. During the efforts of the Alorian Empire to influence Gobae in the 18th-20th centuries, the Penru were historically converted into a Draddwyr-speaking Alorian culturally influenced people. Under this identity, the Penru were victim to genocide in the 24th and 37th Centuries resulting in major population declines. Their populations eventually established themselves and stabilized, and the Penru identity crisis was reversed in the 6th millenium following concerted indigenous cultural revival efforts. The Penru heartland is in the southeast.

The dominant language of communication is Naramal (meaning "National Language"; an analogue to IRL Standard South Korean Pyojuneo), colloquially known as Kyomal ("Kyo Language"), which remains taught in all schools and used commonly throughout all the land. Romanization should either follow Revised or McCune-Reischauer standards. There exist regional dialects; Changtae (IRL Jejumal), West Myeoggi (IRL Hamgyeong Dialect), East Myeoggi (IRL Pyeongan Dialect), Haegi (IRL Hwanghae Dialect), Hyonggi (IRL Gangweon Dialect), Seongtaek (Gyeongsang Dialect), North Konggi (IRL Chungcheong Dialect), South Konggi (IRL Jeolla Dialect), and Gongmangdo (IRL Seoulmal).

Draniano (An original Creole conlang unique to Particracy; primarily a blend of Korean and Spanish), is influenced by Egelian but has since developed very divergent features. It is sometimes learned as a second language; remaining commonly used in Haegi and other provinces. Draniano is traditionally written with the Egelian alphabet brought over from colonization (Latin Alphabet), but later events have resulted in common use of Baegul (Korean Alphabet) as well.

Penru (Evenk) is believed to be distantly related to Kyomal, sharing similar syntax and etymologies. It is infrequently used in everyday speech outside of Rokgi Province, where over 90% of the Penru population is concentrated. Dankuk has 3 official languages โ€“ Naramal (Kyo), Draniano, and Penru.

A sizable amount of people in Dankuk are bilingual in Kyomal and Draniano, with some even being trilingual.

Religion in Dankuk is largely diverse; though the largest religious group present are Atheist or Irreligious. Due to the exclusionary and fluid nature of Dankuk's traditional religions, numbers regarding shamanism are not representative of most of reality. Shamans are popular with the general population, far more than official numbers would suggest.

Character naming should reflect the cultural background of the nation, either being exclusively to one ethnic group or showing an integration of more than ethnicity, particularly with mixed-race characters. With Kyo and Penru persons, surname comes before given name (Ex: Hong Kil-Dong โ€“ Hong is family name, Kildong is personal name). Draniano names should generally follow Spanish naming conventions (Ex: Pirio Jegal Sagong โ€“ Pirio is personal name, Jegal is first surname, Sagong is second surname). However, Draniano names should reflect a mixed heritage.
