Bill: Real Achievment in Education Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: New Passive Militarist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2252

Description[?]:

For too long, standardized testing has been used to measure the achievement of pupils throughout the Empire. Many bright students who simply don't "test well" have been denied well-deserved opportunities, and many underachievers who simply know how to "work the system" have received undeserved honors.

It is time to change this.

MessageHmm, difficult one

Creativity is important, but I don't think an educational system is able to teach it

And creativity doesn't give you the skills to learn a profession and work

MessageWell, the IPP's opinion doesn't really count at the moment, but our preference is a middle ground. We'd like an option that gives all three - student creativity, standardised testing and practical work testing - a roughly equal degree of importance.

MessageWell, the crux is only these both option are available.
The IPS too, would have a mixture between the two possibilities.

MessageThis option allows for standardized testing, but it places creativity in a place of greater importance.

Creativity does tend (VBS) to be a greater measure of one's intelligence than the circle one chooses to fill in with a #2 pencil, plus "creativity" does not merely cover artistic ability, but also the ability to come up with unique solutions to problems and more generally, to "think outside of the box." The encouragement and recognition of such abilities would do our beloved empire a much greater service than the one currently provided.

MessageIndeed, you're right

But I prefer to have my car fixed by someone that learned how to fix cars and not by someone who can solve problems in a creative manner.

Therefor, the VBS Party cannot accept this

MessageOf course, the person who fixes your car may not have learned how to at all, but rather learned to take a test. Someone who can solve problems in a creative manner is also more able to quickly diagnose and fix your car problems. The proposed system rewards intelligence, not lackidasical button-pushing.

MessageWell, at least my car-mechanic has learned what button to press, while a creative spirit didn't learn that at school.

Random fact: "Game mechanics comes first." For example, if a currently-enforced bill sets out one law, then a player cannot claim the government has set out a contradictory law.
