Bill: Free Assembly Bill October 2074
Details
Submitted by[?]: Primitivist Ethno-Heathen Alliance
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2076
Description[?]:
The current legislation on the right to assembly in public places is clearly wide open for abuse. Giving law enforcement agencies these kinds of powers is a violation of what many consider to be one of the most important rights and freedoms in a democracy, the right of assembly. Restriction of this freedom is a restriction of a person's essential freedoms as a citizen of this Republic, freedoms that should be upheld regardless of whatever "risk" law enforcement agencies may consider them to pose. Let us therefore vote to make free assembly totally unrestricted. |
Proposals
Article 1

Old value:: The police may disperse a group if they believe it poses a potential risk to public safety.
Current: The police may disperse a group without giving any reason.

Message | PEHA: As with your opposition to the eradication of hate speech, your notion of freedom is beyond our understanding. Certain restrictions are indeed needed to avoid total anarchy and rebellions. |

Message | Exactly. It must be made clear that the only way to change the government of Davostan is through elections, not through anarchic protests. |

Message | our "notion of freedom" is beyond understanding? Any idea of freedom that defines it in terms of restrictions is not worthy of the name. Do either of you even know the meaning of the word "anarchy"? |
