We hereby propose the following measures to be sure all Likatonians have access to affordable health care and prescription drugs. We find it outrageous that nothing is done to alleviate the high cost of prescription drugs, even for the poor.

MessageThe problem that Artticle 1 remedies is that if most people are expected to pay for their own health care, then many providers will refuse to take part in the government system for low income people.

In Article 2 the concept is obvious, that no one should have to go without needed pharmaceuticals due to lack of ability to pay-- although it is fair to expect those who are not poor to pay something.

MessageWhilst we fully sympathise with the points raised by the PLP, are we not in danger of effectively subsidising poor health decisions, and possibly turning ikatonia into a nation of prescription junkies?

MessageWe would be expecting the healthy to pay for the care of the unhealthy.

However, we do not see that as a problem. All compassionate economic policies ask the winners, in one form or another, to help pay for the losers.

Saying that diseases cannot be cured if one cannot afford the cure is unacceptable to us.

And "prescription junkies?" Right now, with all drugs legal (which is acceptable policy to us), you can be a junky on anything you want, but only if you can pay for it. Subsidizing prescription drugs does create a preference in favor of therapeutic drugs, however. Otherwise, we are encouraging people to self-medicate if the cocaine is a cheaper antidepressant than the Zoloft.
