Message | This is irrelevan tmeddling. If we treat marriage and civil unions equally now (i.e. we ignore both), how does it affect the equality of either if we continue to treat both the same, and merely add administration to it? |
Date | 20:47:07, December 11, 2006 CET | From | AM Radical Libertarian Party | To | Debating the Civil Unions Bill |
Message | I totally agree with the LRP. There can be no discrimination if there is no action. |

Message | We agree with the LRP and AMR that this is not important, for the reasons they describe. However, we see specifically allowing same-sex unions as preferable to ignoring them and thus will support this measure, although not viewing it as important. |

Message | We would like to point out that unless the government recognizes the marriages as an institution, these marriages can not take place. What religion allows for same sex marraige, what institution would recognize the marriage? Simply put, none. If one seeks to have equal rights for the groups then it is necessary to have the government become that recognizing body for these individuals who seek matrimony. |

Message | To the MMP, With the greatest possible respect, that is balderdash. As we do not lend religion any particular credence, and other social order can recognise civil unions, or not, as is their choice, there is NO disparity. We still discourage any gender discrimination, yet your party wishes to create legislation to set apart those who do not feel that love needs an administrative seal, and force those who wish to be recognised as married to jump through at least one more administrative hoop by requiring them to register it. It is a crackpot notion, frankly, and, to paraphrase a great leader, 'it shall not pass'. |
