Bill: Local Power for the Regions Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: People's Progressive Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2081

Description[?]:

This bill will de-centralise Darnussia to a sensible extent. The People's Party believes that a higher degree of regional autonomy is absolutely necessary, so we propose a radical reform package to give Darnussian locals more representitive and active democracy.

MessageThis is a radical devolution bill that will give more power to direct rather than indirect representitives of the people. However, because it's quite radical, I'm willing to compromise: Any thoughts?

MessageArticle 1
Proposal[?] to change Higher Education Institutions

Current: The government maintains a system of universities, vocational schools, and colleges nationwide.

Proposed: The government leaves the development and funding of vocational schools and colleges up to local governments.

That would cause greater regional differences between higher-education facilities

MessageThe situation is pretty pristine at current, with national parks and free libaries universal accross the nation. Local governments might wreck this.

MessageBut such a centralised beurocracy fails to understand the needs of locals. For example, some local may need more parks than others, and it is regional officials who will realise this better than any centrally planned government. Why should men in suits in the capitol dictate policy in regions they've never been to or know nothing of?

MessageThe federal stance against discrimination is abolished once this law is put into effect. You are ASSUMING that the provinces will adopt the same policy.

MessageThat's called small government. Your taking power away from big government to put it into small government. Thus it is a small government.
