Bill: Cabinet Proposal of December 2332

Details

Submitted by[?]: AM Populist Social Democrats

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2333

Description[?]:

Whereas, the LITP seems to be rejecting the other cabinet proposal, we offer this cabinet proposal that reaches a majority by including all the other parties.

MessageThe LITP are disgusted by this proposal to remove the largest party from the cabinet. String government should be about what is best for the nation, not some grubby little old boys club.

The LITP rejects this shameless manipulation of the Likaton people.

Message"Largest party" means nothing, as for example with the current ideologies of the parties, if the Libertarians upon returning got 45% of the seats, we would seek to put together a government with the parties with more compassionate economic policies, even if all were smaller.

The PLPL's original proposal gave the LITP important roles in the cabinet, post-election. The LITP was present and made other moves, but refused to back it. So, we decided that a cabinet without the LITP might be the best solution.

MessageOOC: I agree, and frankly was not attempting to.

I felt a new cabinet should follow the new elections.

I knew cabinets usually only include enough seats to gain a majority.

I do not, however, recognize seniority as a legitimate concern in making cabinets. Activity and ideology are more valid concerns. I also felt that two parties (yours, including the one out of which the current party was built, plus the Libertarians) had virtually always held the HoG post.

In the cabinet I proposed, I proposed to allow another party, one that you may consider an enemy, to hold the post.

Nevertheless, my first cabinet proposal included your party with the most seats and with one of the "big three", plus Defense, and I anticipated that you would vote yes.

I saw your refusal to vote for it as a rejection for what I saw as no good reason, and decided to find the only other way to a majority that included my party in this proposal.

People ought to avoid taking cabinet selections so personally.

Had you not introduced your "revenge" proposal, I'd change my vote to "abstain" on this cabinet, and thus guarantee you your position in the new cabinet. I'm not sure what to do now, but I do not desire to make enemies. I will, as this is a political game, have ideological enemies, as you might as well. Ideological enemies should not take such personally.

MessageOOC, continued after some thought: And as a desire not to make enemies, I shall abstain now on this cabinet proposal anyway.

Random fact: The people in your nation don't like inactive parties. When you often abstain from voting for a bill, they will dislike your party and your visibility to the electorate will decrease significantly. Low visibility will means you are likely to lose seats. So keep in mind: voting Yes or No is always better than Abstaining.

Random quote: "Men who have greatness in them don't go in for politics." - Albert Camus
