Bill: Middle class tax cut of September 2336
Details
Submitted by[?]: AM Populist Social Democrats
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2337
Description[?]:
The Populist Liberal Party of Likatonia propose to adjust the government's income tax policy to better address the economic situation of the The Free Axis Mundi Republic of Central Likatonia. With the sales taxes on non-essential goods presenting us with a large surplus, we are happy to suggest this middle class tax cut, targetting those who both pay this sales tax and find it more difficult to afford. |

Message | We would like to state, for the record, that our calculations show that even with the corporate tax cut that we were willing to include to get the minimum wage increased, that this tax cut should not result in a deficit. If we calculated wrong and it does so, we will propose whatever budget cuts become necessary to bring Likatonia out of deficit spending. |
Date | 21:37:04, December 29, 2006 CET | From | Likaton Coalition of the Willing | To | Debating the Middle class tax cut of September 2336 |
Message | Our position on taxation is that it should be clear, easy to understand and fair. We believe that a tax-and-spend policy should be used to deliver effective public service. As such, we will not support these tax cuts. In the interest of equanimity and political unity, however, we will also not oppose them. |

Message | Given that the abstension will result in failure of the bill, may we ask the specific objections the LITP has? We will not lower the rates on the wealthiest citizens, especially as we are now getting so much of our revenue through a non-essential-goods sales tax that is not progressive. We would consider keeping the current income tax system but lowering the sales tax in question. However, sales taxes are more efficient and make for easier collection. Thus, so long as the income tax system remains progressive enough, we are not troubled so much by our admittedly high luxury sales tax. We do wish however, one way or the other, to provide help to working and middle class families highly burdened by the non-essential goods tax, without cutting the budgets of vital government programs. |
