Description[?]:
"We're fighting a cultural war...for the soul of Kirlawa!" -Frmr. Minister of Justice Jack Hobbes, Jr. September, 2115 "Put more simply, we stand for personal security, health security, moral security, and national security. We ask for nothing more than a strong and secure Kirlawa, both in our many faiths, our many freedoms, and our valued families. We reject the theory that a permissive society is a free one, and we reject the idea that we should retreat from the international stage and cut spending on defending the children of our Motherland. History has given us the chance to build a government for the good and moral citizens of this nation...and the Whig Party will take history up on her offer." -President Mackenzie Hamilton Inaugural Address, November 2106 Campaign Slogans: "Free at Home. Free in the World. Free to Excel." "Progressive. Conservative. Kirlawan." Party History: March 22, 2099: Whig Party founded at Kirla convention by Jack and Chelsea Hobbes. November 2100: Whigs receive 56 seats in the House of Representatives, finish second on the Presidential ballot, and Chelsea Hobbes (wife of party founder Jack Hobbes) ascends to the office of Prime Minister. November 2103: Whigs lose 11 House seats, Hobbes finishes third in Presidential balloting. November 2106: Jack Hobbes steps aside, allows insurgent Mackenzie Hamilton to accept Whig presidential nomination. Hamilton becomes the first Whig elected President of the Republic, and on his coattails the Whigs net 11 seats, given them 56 in the House of Representatives. Two attempts to form governing coalitions fail. November 2109: President Hamilton defeated by Sebastian Libber for a second term, ending his tenure as de facto chief of the Whig Party. Whigs lose 6 seats in the House, giving them a total of 49. Initially passed cabinet coalition provides Whigs with control of the Foreign Affairs, Justice, and Education ministries; but it is struck down by a libertarian majority later in the session. November 2112: Nominee Lincoln Dubya finishes fifth in presidential balloting and Whigs lose another 8 seats. Political shake-up gives control of the Whigs to former Minister of Justice Jack Hobbes, Jr. November 2115: Whigs gain one seat in the House, achieve plurality in Dirlana Province, and Jack Hobbes, Jr. remains in control of the party, calling for a return to the "religious and federalist" strains of thought that founded the Whig Party. November 2118: George H.W. Kemp, Hobbes' hand-picked candidate for the Whig nomination takes 25% of the vote on the first ballot and 41% in the run-off against Joschka De Visser. In elections for the House, the Whigs net 37 seats, landing them the plurality and 79 total seats. In the new session of the House of Representatives, Jack Hobbes, Jr. becomes Prime Minister. August 2119: Whigs call for special elections following the dissolution of the Conservative Party. Whigs lose six total seats, but remain in the plurality. George Kemp finishes with nearly 25% of the vote again, but loses the second round of voting to Sebastian Libber of the Altruist Union Party. October 1, 2120: George Kemp assassinated while delivering an address on taxes in Dirguzia. Jack Hobbes, Jr. taps relative outsider and Calvinball Commissioner Condoleezza "Condi" Perot to replace Kemp on the primary ballots against Pat Vinick. August 2122: Whigs upset the pundits, winning ten more seats in the House of Representatives and electing Condoleezza Perot as President of the Republic, narrowly defeating President Libber 51-49 in the run-off election. September 2123: Minister of Foreign Affairs Pat Vinick proposes two international treaties to establish a "more humane" foreign policy. August 2125: Theodore Rutledge wins a smashing electoral victory. |

Random fact: Players have a responsibility to differentiate between OOC (out-of-character) and IC (in-character) behaviour, and to make clear when they are communicating in OOC or IC terms. Since Particracy is a role-playing game, IC excesses are generally fine, but OOC attacks are not. However, players must not presume this convention permits them to harass a player with IC remarks that have a clear OOC context. |
