Description[?]:
Fortschrittsvereinigung (Progress Union) The original Progress Party was formed in May 4046 as a bridge between the extreme left and extreme right dominating politics in Dorvik. It supports progressive social policies and centrist, third-way economic policy, although since the 4070s there has been a growth in more fiscally conservative and moderate members of the party. The party is situated in the centre of the political spectrum, at times in the past having lurched towards the centre-left and in more recent years toward the centre-right. In the 4030s, the party adopted a social-liberal platform. Since its inception, the party has had right Presidents and nine State Chancellors. In 4114, the party created an electoral alliance with the Radical Party known as the Progress/Radical Alliance. In 4133 this evolved into a looser alliance, called the Alliance for Democracy. Currently the Progress Party, the Radical Party and the Liberal Worker's Party are full members of this alliance, with the Green Party as a less involved member which fields its own presidential candidate initially. In January 4159, the party alongside some disgruntled Libertarians merged to form the Progress Democrats. The party ran on a classical liberal and borderline right-libertarian platform. It then became the more centrist Progress in February 4207, merged into the Conservative Liberal Party to create the Liberal Progress Party in November 4218, before that party flatlined. There were then factions of former Progress members in the Pragmatic Party, before the Progress Party finally reformed in 4222. In March 4265 the party re-branded into New Progress and tried to usher in a fresher platform. Despite the party's structure being fairly stale in these years, it did manage to usher in some of its best success in years, mostly due to a lack of other parties. In October 4278, fresher faces in the party decided to re-brand the party again to the Progress Union, to address the party's broader support base than in the past. Progress Left Dorvik completely in May 4291, after becoming tired of the game. Random quote: "No one today can afford to be innocent, or indulge himself in ignorance of contemporary governments, politics and social orders. The national polities of the modern world maintain their existence by deliberately fostered craving and fear: monstrous protection rackets. The 'free world' has become economically dependent on a fantastic system of stimulation of greed which cannot be fulfilled, sexual desire which cannot be satiated and hatred which has no outlet except against oneself, the persons one is supposed to love, or the revolutionary aspirations of pitiful, poverty-stricken marginal societies like Cuba or Vietnam. The conditions of the Cold War have turned all modern societies - communist included - into vicious distorters of man's true potential." - Gary Snyder |
