A coalition of religious scholars and their supporters, the Union of Progressive Ulama is progressive, Islamic, and democratic. It upholds the Caliphate and the democratic values of Islam, and is committed to solidarity throughout the Islamic umma and the inalienable human rights of all people who submit to God. The UPU stands for a mixed economy, empowering working people through a strong state sector and worker cooperatives, while allowing small business and families to prosper at the same time. The UPU is governed by a council of religious scholars (ulama) subject to approval of the annual UPU convention. The party's co-leaders are Haji Amien Nur and Sheikh Fatima Alghabra. |
