Description[?]:
The Alliance of Social Democrats, founded in 2787, is one of the most storied parties in Luthori history. Though its initial entrance into Luthorian politics was hampered by the party's anti-Monarchist policies, it would only be a matter of years before the Social Democrats compromised with the Imperial Alliance in order to further the rights of the Luthorian people, while maintaining the rule of His Majesty. After holding at least one position in the National Cabinet for more than two decades consecutively, a conflict between the pro-Monarchist and anti-Monarchist wings of the party led to its removal from Luthorian politics. The party briefly recuperated after years of turmoil, but once again collapsed under the weight of intraparty divisions. In August 2788, the party proposed radical measures to recognize the rights of the Luthorian people. It was the first time that a bill proposed by the Alliance of Social Democrats was voted into law, providing legal aid for the accused in criminal trials, ending discrimination in the military, and observing workers' right to strike. In 2795, the ASD introduced legislation titled the Change for a Better Luthori Act, which passed 101-99 and resulted in the Holy Luthori Empire withdrawing from a large share of its treaty obligations. In subsequent years, the party shifted to a more traditional, pro-monarchist stance, and supported the renewal of many of those obligations. Decades later, the ASD was a founding member of His Majesty's Imperial Un-Luthorian Activities Committee and the Imperial Regional Oversight Committee. In its current iteration, the Alliance of Social Democrats houses anti- and pro-monarchist wings. However, the official party platform calls for moderate monarchism, and for maintaining and reviving the Holy Luthori Empire's traditions. The party is also committed to economic justice and fairness, and the advancement of human rights. |

Random quote: "A democracy that does not allow limits is not a democracy. Just as a limitless freedom is not freedom, but prevarication. Indeed, any theory of freedom worthy of this name is first of all a limit theory. If we extend the unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not willing to defend a tolerant society against the attacks of the intolerants, then the tolerants will be destroyed and the tolerance with them! Because, I ask to myself and ask you, given a certain system that we call democratic, which is today the best possible system to allow everyone to live freely and to be able to express their own thoughts, how can the same system admit attacks against its integrity? How can a system refuse the principle of the self-preservation? For this reason, to suppress the apologetics of thalerrism, it's for this reason that the exaltation of exegetes, principles, facts or methods of Thallerism and its anti-democratic aims does not constitute a violation of the freedom of manifestation of thought, but, on the contrary, the celebration of that freedom. The protection of the first premise on which a modern democratic system is based. And this premise must be safeguarded also and above all against itself and its abuses." ~ Malik Astori, Leadership of Liberty and Progress (Istalia) |
