Description[?]:
The Military Veterans Association traces its history back several centuries, and is well-respected in military circles. Its membership is open to all those who have finished their terms of duty in the armed forces. Traditionally the main activities of the MVA have concerned organising social, charintable and sporting events; providing assistance to sick or impoverished veterans; and helping veterans to retrain and find new jobs after leaving the military. MVA leaders have always been able to take advantage of their experience of military affairs and military life, and the close connections they maintain with present serving officers, in order to raise their voice in the politcal arena to articulate the interests and concerns of the military community. Retired officers, no longer bound by the conditions of service, are able to speak more freely than serving officers, and use this opportunity to let the public know what feelings within the army really are. In February 2701 the MVA Council under its current Chairman, (retired) General Abu Rahman, took the unusual step of launching the organisation as a political party. Partly this was a result of pressure building up within the military. Soldiers are concerned that the army is grossly underfunded and neglected by political leaders, which adversely affects the welfare of our bravest sons whilst also putting national security at risk. Largely, however, the formation of the MVA as a political party was a response to a groundswell of pressure from the public, who feel increasing disillusioned with their corrupt and inept civilian leaders. The public loves the army as a patriotic institution and a great source of stability in public life. It is the army that puts the lives of its members on the line when things get really tough, and it is those who serve the army who love the nation and its people more than any other. In an age where citizens are more and more disillusioned with politicians, it is to the army that the people are turning to guide our nation towards its destiny. Here is a brief outline of our political platform: - a radical upgrading of the army and an improvement in conditions for those who serve in it. - support for the monarchy, so long as it behaves itself. - respecting the Muslim character of our nation, and not going down the road to social anarchism followed by so many other nations. However, we will insist upon a responsible separation between mosque and state. - standing up for Al'Badara's interests in the world, recognising that we are one of Terra's poorer nations and cannot be expected to solve all its problems. We must also put our interests first in our economic relations with other countries. - encouraging the values of hard work, self-respect and honesty which are integral to revitalising our economy. - raising the living conditions of our people, especially through public works such as schools and hospitals. |
