Description[?]:
The Shuggoth Progressive Party (SPP) is a strong proponent of civil rights for our citizens. We favor a free market, with minimal government oversight. We trust the citizens enough to allow them to make their own decisions on matters of morality and religion. The Shuggoth are a Buddhist School headed by the Black Hat Karmapa, rather than the Dalai Lama. We are followers of the Diamond Way; unlike the Dalai Lama, who teaches that one must be a monk, and one must follow a rigorous program of scholasticism in order to achieve Nirvana, the Karmapa teaches us that Nirvana is attainable by all in this lifetime, if only one works diligently at it. The Shuggoth are free to follow any other religion of the Empire alongside of Buddhism, but their primary loyalties must be to the Karmapa. The SPP is a party dominated by the Shuggoth Buddhists, but any Luthori may join. Non-Buddhist Luthori do not owe the Karmapa any special allegiance, and are free to follow the religion of their choice. The SPP has been the dominant political force, since it came to power in the elections of 2175. Under the leadership of Trinzin Gyatso Dorje, Head of Government from 2175 - 2191, under various coalition governments, the SPP ushered in a new era of tolerance in religious matters, laissez-faire economics, and civil rights for all citizens. Mr. Dorje stepped down in 2191, to pursue Buddhist study and meditation. He leaves the government in the able hands of Athena Williamson, the former Justice Minister.
