Description[?]:
The Democratic Movement Party is a pro-democracy party focused on making sure democratic values are being followed by working with parties and governments in power. The party was founded in 5196 by a group of students intellectuals led by Flavio Masters, John Young, Cathy Phillips and Wu Clarke from the Fort William Royal University looking for a more effective and stable way of government. Flavio Masters led the party to electoral success in the late 5190s and early 5200s with around 20% of the seats in the diet. The party was part of the centre left governments of the time led by John Conte, John Ellis and the DMP's only nominated candidate Independent politian Anastasia Meyer. After the Ellis cabinet into the 5210s, the partys support dropped off. Rumors of a dissolution of the party went around the news with the successful Orange branch spliting off and forming its own group. The branches of Northriding and Shipleyriding were also dissolved at this time but in 5223 the branches were formally refounded although unoffical campaigns did still exist and instead independent, local centrist lists were used in national elections in these duchies. During this time the party supported two governments led by Kimberly Bush, one right wing and one national unity to kee Luthori stable through a time of failed parliaments due to governments not being formed. However the party was too weak to get any cabinet positions in these although in some proposed governments Environment and Tourism was offered due to the party running scientist Ben Longhorn for the role. In 5224 the party joined the Movement for Luthori coalition with List Humerdink and Luthorian Labour to create a centre pillar in Luthorian politics. The 5228 elections saw the return of the ICU in great numbers due to the political instabilty. With the party hovering around 20 seats, which is the most it has had since the 5210s, the DMP supported the government it formed along with the rest of the MfL to make sure that the instability could stop but also to moderate the ICU from passing extreme acts. In late 5229 the party started to propose laws again to make sure the public knew the party's positions and in hand with this in January 5230 lifeklong leader Flavio Masters stepped down and was replaced with Helen Malton. In the 1530 election the party got back up to 10% of the vote, its best result in decades. Also the election resulted in the Movement for Luthori being the largest group. After that election the DMP tied to form a government under them with centrist an leftist parties but the Left Party refused to support which led to early elections. After this election the DMP dropped down to a minor party again which led to questions about Helen Maltons compromise method in the last parliament to try and get homosexuality allowed in the military. This did not work. After this election no new government could be formed and the party fell to infighting so it decided to dissolve in late 5232. Many members joined other MfL parties with some left wing members joining the LSP. During the local elections the DMP have run in various lists. For the 5200 and 5205 elections it ran in the Alliance for Luthori with LL and RfE. This coalition was fairly successfu winning Orange and Shipleyridding duchies which were both led by the DMP as well. However after that list dissolved it endorsed local independent lists for the 5210, 5215 and 5220 elections. These lists were largely unsuccessful with only the Orange Independents winning in the 5210 election. In 5225 the MfL ran together to test the waters for a national campaign together. The list was more successful than any independent list as it won Orange but it came third place in all other duchies. In the 5230 local elections MfL kept Oragnge duchy and the DMP made a deal with the LCP led Blue Coalition to support them in government in Shipleyridding. After the party dissolved members sat their terms out as members of other MfL parties or as independents. Leader: Flavio Masters (5196-5230) Helen Malton (5230-5232) |

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election. |
