Bill: Police Reforms of 2374

Details

Submitted by[?]: Jakanian Liberal Socialists

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2376

Description[?]:

Recognising the duty of the government to all of its citizens, without exception, this bill will restrict the lethality of weapons our police may carry. In exceptional circumstances, teams trained and authorised to use lethal force may be deployed, but regular officers will not be expected or authorised to be lethally armed.

MessageI dont like the idea of crimials being able to carry military-grade equipment and the police being killed because they cant fight them.

MessageThat is a fallacy. Very few, if any, RL police forces carry military weapons as a norm, and they hardly "can't fight" crime.

MessageNot actually a fallacy, just an unsound (and maybe invalid) argument.

MessageThis provides criminals with the ability to possess better weapons than police officers and harms Jakania's security.

MessageSo basically what the M.R.P. is saying is that they want a policeman to be able to patrol the streets with an
AK-47?

MessageI dont think the oppostion understands the term non-lethal. It means IT DOESNT KILL THEM. It stuns, incapacitate's them, knocks them out and the such. It doest mean that if they get hit with one, there going to be like "Ouch, I just got shot at with a non-lethal weapon" They will be on the ground, rolling around in pain. Understand terms before you start saying bad stuff

Message(also, what many people dont know, is that the police officers in the U.S.A, most of them carry non lethal weaponry, a bill like this also helps reduce civilian casulties)

MessageVery well put by the U.D.J. We whole-heartedly agree with them on this. Many officers in the U.S. carry weapons loaded with blanks or bean bags that will do the job but will not kill the victim unless they are literally shot repeatedly in the head more than a few times over and over. This still allows Special Units to carry lethal weapons, but that is why they are specifically trained to due "special" duties.
