Details
Submitted by[?]: Catholic Workers Movement
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2089
Description[?]:
The parliament of the Beluzian Republic declares exclusive economic jurisdiction over all waters extending 500 km in all directions from our land mass, including Beluzian island possesions. These territorial waters shall be reserved for the economic good of the Beluzian people. Parliament further ratifies the following clauses from the Law of the Sea: * Absolute jurisdiction (Exclusive Economic Zone) of 100km from the shore, where this zone does not overlap with that of another country. * Transient jurisdiction (Transit and Harvesting Zone) of 500km from the shore, where this zone does not overlap with that of another country. * Where zones meet or overlap, the border shall be set at the median (halfway) line between land masses. For neighbouring countries, sea borders should extend perpendicular to the coast. Parliament also recognizes the maritime claims of our neighbours Darnussia and Rutania, and sets sea borders with those countries at the median point between our land masses. |

Message | I'd intended to leave this to the foreign minister, but since SLP is AWOL, doing it myself. |

Message | It sounds like a good idea. Have you been in communication with Darnussia and rutania over this? |

Message | No, that would be MOST improper of me as an opposition party. ;) However if the ehad of state has no objections, then let's bring this to their attention. Can't move it to the vote until after the election anyway. |

Message | I don't think we should join the "Law of the Seas" nonsense, not because of my biligerant objections to anything international, but because I don't think we are part of the 'World Court'. However I have no problems abiding by the laws, we just don't have to sign the pieces of paper. It makes life simpler; and also means if you want to sink an enemy frigate in someone elses waters you can! Everybody wins! (Joke btw) although... |

Message | Well, there is no World Court. We coudl ratify that "law of the sea" with the World Court clause deleted: then we'd just be recognizing other countries ahve the same teritorial waters rights as us. Except ours are enormous and billowing and strategic! Hurrah! At least Bailon is good for something. |

Message | That has to be the biggest and most tactical prong of islands that there has ever been seen! |

Message | The problem being CWM, PAL is the simple fact that even if we do not recognise the world court persay other countries could still theoretically take us to court over these things. The law of the Sea: * Absolute jurisdiction (Exclusive Economic Zone) of 100km from the shore, where this zone does not overlap with that of another country. * Prior claims and disputes to be determined by the World Court. * A requirement that internal laws be amended to reflect the agreed-upon rules. |

Message | Other countries can't take us to a court that isn't recognised can they? If so, how? |

Message | The World Court was never formed as far as i can tell. If it is, then presumably it woudl be like the real-life World Court, which only has jurisdiciton over countries that accept it. Since Belizia doesn't, then the court couldn't have any jurisdiction over us. |

Message | We would want more control, but as it stands we TECHNICALLY have no legal control over the waters - just military control so this is acceptable. |

Message | We support this initiative. ((And technically still hold the foreign ministry... so, uhm... what now? Suppose you will be voted in soon though, anyway.)) |
