MessageOpposed. Killing people is always wrong. We must protect the unborn, the dying, and even the sickest in our society, for no one is beyond redemption.

MessageNo. As we have already said in a contemporary society the death penalty does not work.

MessageWhy "does [it] not work"?

The people are dead and aretherfore not commiting crimes. Sounds like they won't be commiting crime - so it works.

MessageThe death penalty is designed to *deter* crimes, on the theory that people are less likely to commit crimes if they know they will be killed.

But in fact it doesn't deter crimes. And inncoent people have been executed. So it doesn't work to accomplish that purpose.

If the only purpose is to protect society, then life imprisonment works just as well as the death penalty.

MessageThe death penalty only works as a deterent if the person is known in the area, in a modern contemporary setting people don't know everybody else, as they would have done in villages, small townships etc. thus it does not work as a deterent.

Moreover, since our 'prisoners' if I recall correctly, work during their inprisonment, death clearly is not cheaper.

MessageA sane person does not associate himself with a terrorist or other serious criminal, even if he is from their home town. Life enprisonment might even help us to learn why/how people turn into criminals against mankind.

Random fact: Cultural Protocol bills must provide a real-life equivalent or short description for the ethnic groups, languages and religions contained in them, such that it would be easy for an unfamiliar player to understand (e.g. "Dundorfian = German"). Where appropriate, they should also provide guidance to players on where to find help with translations and character names. This might include, for example, links to Google Translate, Behind the Name's Random Name Generator and Fantasy Name Generators.
