MessageOOC: I noticed this and thought about proposing it, but I think that we should wait to see how ratification pans out in the other Seleyan nations before beginning to debate potential ratification.

MessageWhile the PWG in principle support cooperation between Seleyan nations, we find the below part of Article 1 of the treaty to be redundant.

"pass bills regarding national law that nations have to comply to unless it is overturned or not supported by parties in their home country. "

Such a treaty would give the extranational parliament no authority whatsoever to create a uniform legislative and policy framework across member states. It would serve the purposes and cause of Seleyan integration if the extranational parliament is restricted to certain policy areas (such as foreign policy, and defence), and all legislations voted in it must become law in member states.

MessageSeñor Presidente,

Thank you for allowing me to speak on this matter.

I completely understand the PWG's concerns about a Union taking over a nation and that is a grave fear of mine as well, this is why I drafted this treaty to make absolute sure that this does not happen. If even one party in the nation opposes the act and makes it well known that they oppose it, the nation in no way has to follow that price of legislation.

Danki,

Sergio Garcia,
Baltusia Ambassador to Gaduridos

The Ambassador misunderstood what I said.
We are not concerned that the Union might take some powers away from member states. Quite the opposite, we fear that it gives too much leniency for member states to opt out as they wish.
If we are to have a strong Union, we must have an extranational parliament that has absolute sovereignty, where all members states must abide by what has been voted at such a parliament.
This is especially important on foreign affairs and defence issues.
In addition, this sovereignty must be extended to monetary policy if and when this Union adopts a common currency.

What is the point of a Union and an extranational parliament if member states have different, sometimes conflicting, policies?

Danki

MessageSeñor Presidente,

Sorry for misunderstanding you.

Anyways, since each and every nation has something to say and since each nation has 15 seats in the Union Assembly, we will work on compromise so nations do not want to step of this law. This treaty unites Seleya in many other ways than just the Union Assemblies resolutions and since currently we have no Union in place where as all of the other big continents do (Majatra and Artania) we see this as essential and just a start line in the race of Seleyan unity that is no where near being finished.

Danki,

Sergio Garcia,
Baltusia Ambassador to Gaduridos

I thank the Ambassador for his explanation.
We the PWG are in principle supportive of this union.
We also understand some member states might want to retain sovereignty on certain, if not most, policy areas.
We would, however, like to ask the Ambassador if it would be possible to include provisions for a single defence and foreign policy for the union, instead of having member states have separate, uncoordinated defence and foreign policies.

Danki
