Bill: Deregulating worker strikes
Details
Submitted by[?]: Ikradonian Faith Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2168
Description[?]:
Workers in the DRI have the right to strike. However, a union may only hold a strike when more than half of its members votes yes in a ballot measure on the matter. The IFP finds this too restrictive and having a bad effect on market regulation. The current rule effectively forces the unions to put an enormous amount of pressure on their workers to show up for the vote. While this could be interpreted as a good thing, after all it seems as if strikes would only happen when a lot of workers support it, it is too restrive because not-voting workers might still support the strike. Therefore, we propose to relax the conditions for strikes, so that there only needs to be a majority of voting workers, instead of all workers. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Trade union strike ballots.
Old value:: Trade unions must by law hold a ballot of all members before going on strike, a majority of all members, regardless of if they vote or not must approve the strike action.
Current: Trade unions must by law hold a ballot of all members before going on strike, majority approval of those that vote is needed from its members.
Proposed: Trade unions must by law hold a ballot of all members before going on strike, majority approval of those that vote is needed from its members.

Message | We ask if there is any option for the workers to strike without a votation. |

Message | That option does exist, of course, but the IFP is unsure if such a proposal would be able to obtain a majority in the Assembly. |

Message | If a worker supports the strike then he will make the effort to vote. We do not wish to make it easier for workers to strike since such strikes are harmful to the Ikradonian economy. Therefore we only want a strike to happen when a majority of workers of the union are in support not simply a majority of those who bothered to vote, especially since voting could be organised by the union leadership in such a way to deny many non-strike supporting workers the chance and opportunity to vote. The NCP does not support this bill. |

Message | "We do not wish to make it easier for workers to strike since such strikes are harmful to the Ikradonian economy." The strike is a basic and fundamental right of the working class! We cannot take this from them. We will support this bill, but will propose in the future the change of it so that it won't be needed a votation to strike, because we think this is absolutly ridiculous. |

Message | We never said we want to remove the right to strike. We simply wish to limit it so it is an option of last resort for workers, not their go-to method for making employers do what they want. |
