Bill: Democratic Ownership Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Democratic Alternative
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 3969
Description[?]:
I hereby propose a democratic revolution in our economy. These proposals will enable people to have a greater share and say in the economy and also make it more inclusive, rather than exclusive. I would also like to note that it appears we are bound by the International Terran Bank in regards to our economic policy. Therefore I would like to suggest that we consider pulling out of this treaty in the national and democratic interest. Note: due to undemocratic restrictions imposed on Hutori by the International Terran Bank, in this case we are only proposing to nationalise the largest businesses in the primary sector. - Curtis Aston MP, Trade and Industry Spokesperson (DA) |

Message | Mr Speaker Our Budget is fragile and not to mention quite small, this bill will simply devastate the Economy and not to mention, Investors will turn there backs on Hutori. Doris Hayman MP Deputy Party Whip Member of Parliament for Upper East Farlistan. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, These are not radical reforms, because we are bound by the diktats of the International Terran Bank my party has only been able to propose the nationalisation of a small number of industries. These reforms could easily be funded by making the rich pay a fair share of tax as well as diverting some of bloated defence budget towards the industry budget. In regards to the investment comment, this is purely scaremongering. The Country Party may have the interests of the elite business community at its core but we in the Democratic Alternative have the interests of the people at heart. - Curtis Aston MP, Trade and Industry Spokesperson (DA) |

Message | Mr Speaker How dare the Democratic Alternative, make a false claim that we are backed by the elite business community, these are our supporters:: Environmentalist, Farmers, Blue-Collar Conservatives, Rural Students, Self-Empoyed Individuals, Monarchist, the Elderly, Rural Communities. We have Rural Hutori at heart not the inner city Business elite. I represent a relatively well-off consituncey in rural Farlistan, many of my constituents will be affected deeply by tax, what if a drought hits, my constituents won't have enough money to save there businesses and livelihoods as they are paying too much in tax. Also many rich folk would simply leave the nation if taxes are unfairly raised against them, where will you precious tax money go then? Message | Mr. Speaker Hutori already has a highly progressive and fair tax rate. A tax hike on the richest citizens was proposed years ago and all it would have accomplished was a increase of government revenue of 5 billion HLR, a drop in the bucket when conpared to current government revenue streams The nation would be better off imposing a small Tax on Essential Goods of 2 to 5 percent which would spark a shocking large amount of revenue. Onto the points of the Bill itself; we prefer the current status quo of the banking; the Hutorian Federal Reserve Bank is the nationa largest bank, their doesnt need to be more government involvement in the bank in sector beyond the tight regulations we have already. Article Two we are adamantly opposed to, the government has no place in the private sector. Furthermore the Bill doesnt state what sectors will actually be placed under government control, we request the DA make it knowm within the Bill itself which industries will be placed under government control instead kf keeping it purposeful vague. Finally we already encourage the creation of DWCs through generous tax exemptions and business credits; requiring them tk be run espceially without signifying which businesses would be exempt is simply the government meddling in something it doesnt need to. Message | Mr Speaker and Members of Parliament, I think the Democratic Alternative and perhaps some other parties are severely misinformed as to the purpose of the International Terran Bank. Firstly as to how we make our money, we loan money entrusted to us by nations such as yourselves to developing countries in the form of direct governmental loans and in the form of microloans. For those of you who don't know microloans are small loans made to individuals often in developing countries intent on encouraging loan recipients to become self-sufficient. These loans are almost without exception paid back in full along with the small amount of interest that we charge. As to what happens to our profit what does not go into paying the administrative cost and the interest incurred by member accounts goes to improving the lives of the impoverished. This takes the form of food stuffs directly delivered to those most in need, education, well construction and shelter production. If you are curious these humanitarian activities comprise over 70% of our profit margin and as such we are currently classified by the Hutorian tax code as a not-for-profit organization. Furthermore the insinuation that we are the quote on quote "Capitalistic Elite" is pure fantasy. I myself as the the CEO of the ITB am the highest earning employee of the organization and perhaps it may shock you to learn that I only make a modest 45,000 HLR a year. You can even look at my holdings I have no significant investments or properties to speak of, check my tax records I pay them in full and on time every year. I have devoted my life to improving the lives of the impoverished through the means of free trade, globalization, and the capitalist mechanisms. Your implying that to do so is impossible and the only proper alternative is complete socialism is contradicted by my life's work and the good that the ITB has done for those of the world who are impoverished. However, to end on a more positive note i would like to formally invite all of parliament to the ITB charity event next month and I would like to extend a special invitation to Curtis Aston. That is of course if it does not offend your socialist sensibilities to attend an event intended to improve the lives of the impoverished. Respectfully Yours, Lewis Holmes CEO of the International Terran Bank Headquartered in Bekenial, Hutori |
