Bill: Organ Donation Act of 3964

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Progressive Union

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 3965

Description[?]:

This bill would change the nation's organ donation policy to become opt-out. This would ensure that we will never be in need of organs for transplants, saving countless lives, while also allowing for individuals to opt out of the program, should they wish to.

It is endorsed by President Samuel Williams, and part of his official progressive platform.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The insinuation that this would put an end to our organ shortage is misguided at best. The current regulation allows for only those who have died as a result of non-disease related incidents to donate organs. Not to mention blood type often limits who can receive what organs and even still organ rejection is still a genuine concern for patients. And then with regards to organ extraction, it must be done relatively close to TOD so then we run the risk of violating someone's religious customs. If we want to avoid said incidents then we could perhaps have them report their religion to the government but, that would be an over reach on our part. In the end without proper safeguards in place we can not in good conscious vote for this proposal.
