Bill: December 4205 - Freedom Of Euthanasia Act (FOEA)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Les Social-Progressives

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 4206

Description[?]:

Honourable members of the Assemblée Nationale,

Euthanasia has Always been a difficult subject to discuss. This is because altering euhanasia legislation forces governments and parties to draw a line between murder and civil rights. When is something considered murder and when does it clash with civil rights?

As a progressive party, the AVL believes that euthanasia, though executed properly, should not be considered murder. If a person has an incurable disease and/or is suffering intense pain and repeatedly wishes to end her/his life, why should we not allow that? An opposing argument would be: ''People can make such decisions when their state of mind is not well enough to make such decisions.' That is why the treating doctor must consent as well, so 'false euthanasia' can be prevented.

The government should not decide wheter someone may live or not. If a patient fully conscious wishes to end her/his life, we can and must not deny them that. It is important for a well-developed and modern nation like ours to protect the human rights our inhabitants have.

Thank you,
- Adrien Lavaud. AVL candidate for Health and Social Services, and prof. Beatrice Vaugeois, Minister of Environment and Tourism and AVL specialist in Social studies. In case of a debate, the AVL will be represented by msr. Lavaud.

MessageHonourable members of the Assemblée Nationale,

We agree with the AVL that euthanasia is a controversial, and difficult topic. However, it is people like them, who passively give them a nudge onto the road of euthanasia that make this bill implausible.

The simple fact is psychology plays a massive role in whether a patient wants to end their life or not. This is not the same as a mental health issue. If society, as the AVL are doing here, say to them that it is OK just to end their life, then they are undoubtedly more likely to consider killing themselves than if the Government said that whilst they didn't agree with it, they cannot stop you.

In our opinion, euthanasia is murder. This is becauses it is a form of forced suicide. Who forced the person to commit suicide you may ask? The answer to that is society, and people like the AVL who claim to be morally right, but actually just tell a person within this tricky situation that suicide is the answer. Now since murder has never been, or never will be, right, that therefore makes euthanasia wrong as well.

For these reasons, we hope that the House will vote against this bill. We thank the Honourable Members for listening.

MessageHonourable members of the Assemblée Nationale,

Does the PCL really thinks that it is in the best interest for people who have fatal diseases with endless suffering and pain to deny them from the one thing that can end their suffering? Sure thing, the AVL does not encourage euthanasia, but the option should Always be available to people who wish to end their lives.

The PCL is basically saying fatally ill people to stop whining, and sit and wait until they die due to natural courses. What kind of inhumane treatment is that? We do not live in the middle ages for gods sake! And to complete the nonsense, the PCL claims that euthanasia is murder, which is acceptable because its their political opinion. But they also accuse society of wrongful death if euthanasia becomes legal! Mme. Desjardins is jumping to conclusions so far away she should apply for participation in the next olympic games!

The AVL hopes the PCL comes to its senses and realises it cant neglect human rights. ''Human rights?'' I hear you say, yes. Human rights. The right of a human to have full sovereignty over their body. This obviously includes the right to end their life if they wish to do so.

MessageHonourable members of the Assemblée Nationale,

I forgot to thank you in my previous speech. I apologize for that. I want to thank all Assemblymen and -women for the great work they do for Lourenne, and that every single day, Lourenne can count on them. Knowing that their are the members of the Assemblée Nationale will do everything in their power to protect Lourennians here in Lourenne and abroad, millions of people can carelessly go to bed.

Thank you.

- Adrien Lavaud. AVL candidate for Health and Social Services.

The AVL claim that we want "fatally ill people to stop whining." This is not true. It is people like the AVL who we want to stop whining.
