Bill: RP/OOC: Legislature Size Debate
Details
Submitted by[?]: National Democratic Party (NDP)
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 4454
Description[?]:
I know that you guys don't want the legislature to be 535. That's fair on your part, but HOWEVER: I now have a justifiable reason to raise the size of the legislature. In overhauling Baltusia's wiki page due to the state name, flag, and seal changes, I also decided to make new maps for Baltusia, including counties. I will likely pass a separate bill overhauling the administrative divisions of Baltusia, and then post the changes on the wiki, but I figured I'd post pictures here to back up my claim of raising the legislature size. Here is a full map of all of Baltusia's counties, which in this map total 201, as opposed to the 101 on the wiki: https://ibin.co/4F9Ht7H2HmOQ.jpg Here are separate maps of each of Baltusia's states, with their counties. Attano: https://ibin.co/4F9IOxjz76dX.jpg Ralston: https://ibin.co/4F9Igl7SLJPH.jpg Westbrook: https://ibin.co/4F9ItFQ6QvOV.jpg New Egelion: https://ibin.co/4F9J2c95V1qG.jpg Santiago: https://ibin.co/4F9JDXeu4mZA.jpg Originally in determining how many House of Representatives members would be sent for each state, I calculated that by population, as we in the US do. Well the number that resulted from that was in the tens of thousands, which didn't work. So I decided to balance the number of members by the number of counties per state. With that in mind, here's what it comes out to: Counties in Attano- 51 Counties in Ralston- 24 Counties in Westbrook- 46 Counties in New Egelion- 27 Counties in Santiago- 53 Total- 201 House members per state: Attano- 105 Ralston- 46 Westbrook- 102 New Egelion- 67 Santiago- 115 In determining the amount of Senators each state would send (the 100 of the 535), that is simple. Each state has 20 Senators. |

Message | Ooc. Our population is smaller than the US so how did you end up with tens of thousands of representatives? Also these proposals would ask us to ignore the game mechanics reference population and election results. I am sure that this is not within the remit of the game rules, i.e. We can't say the population of one of the states is different from what it is. |

Message | OOC: I believe you are overthinking it, although I welcome alternate numbers of representatives from each state to be submitted by the other parties. |

Message | ooc: Yeah maybe, but basically I believe the proposal would fall foul of 6.e.iii that an RP law cannot contradict the game mechanics. Because the game was reset a few years ago with each region having an equal population it is difficult to RP each region having markedly different numbers of representatives. |

Message | The population of each state according to the game is virtually identical so how is it exactly that you ended up with the states having such wildly different seat numbers. Also, I really don't see the point of this overall why exactly do we need to expand the legislature, currently each state has 50 representatives which seems fine to me. |

Message | OOC: It is to add a further depth of realism to the nation. Alongside that, I have already made seals for all government positions in Baltusia, including both parts of the legislature. |

Message | ooc: I'll back on the grounds that I am not that bothered. However, the SDLP is right to raise concerns. Game rule 6.e.iii clearly states that an RP law cannot contradict the game mechanics. As each region has a similar population and will have a similar number of seats under the game mechanics, the RP division of seats outlined in the description is meaningless, other than as a recorded RP (ie we can pretend each region has different populations and seats, but actually they don't and any new player can legitimately challenge this RP and we have no means of defending it). |
