Bill: Budget proposal of June 4454

Details

Submitted by[?]: Republican Party - Democrats

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 4456

Description[?]:

The Democratic Party propose to adjust the government's spending budget to better address the economic and social situation of the United States of Baltusia.

The new Finance Minister proposes that it is time that a new budget is moved to vote. Recognising that their has been a historic under investment in Defence and Law and Order, the Democratic Party proposes that money is shifted from Finance, Science and Technology and Agriculture to Defence, Justice and Internal Affairs.

Defence spending is currently at 0.4% of GDP and these modest proposals would increase defence spending to 1.5% of GDP, a more reasonable figure that would allow the military to being to rebuild slowly from historic low levels of funding.

MessageThis is a start of overhauling government spending. In the last decade a number of measures have passed that should have reduced total government spending in certain departments and the Democratic Party will begin to investigate where cuts should have been implemented following changes in legislation that would've reduced government spending.

MessageWhile we question the cuts to science and agriculture, we overall support the adjustments the Democratic Party has made and will support this bill if it goes to a vote.

MessageOverinvestment. While we are currently spending 0.4% of GDP on the defence the equivalent is 2% in agriculture and 4% in science and technology which are phenomenal levels of expenditure.

MessageWe disagree with your cuts to Finance, Science and Technology, and Food and Agriculture. Our party doesn't believe in cutting the budget from those type of areas. We're fine with the defense spending increase though.
