MessageHonourable members of the Royal Assembly,

It is very disappointing to see that Lourenne has decided to resign from a position of leadership on the issue of landmines. Particularly as Lourenne was one of the first nations to take the brave stand to ratify the ITPL nearly 180 years ago.

Let us not forget that the use of landmines is completely inconsistent and unnecessary by a modern military force, and further, that the vast majority of victims from the use of landmines are innocents. Thus, it is most upsetting to see Lourenne, one of the world's premier fighting forces, and one of the world's foremost moral leaders, taking such an immoral position today.

I implore you to reconsider your decision on the ITPL and to vote on the side of social justice and morality. Let's ensure that no innocent child is maimed due to the cowardice of adults who choose to use such impersonal killing devices.

Sukhumbhand Paribatra
Chairman of the International Organization for the Prohibition of Landmines (IOPL)
