Message | Mr. Speaker, I would like to point out that Mr. Stevenson's points are gross exaggerations and at times out right false. If I may take each point in turn I will attempt to correct Mr. Stevenson's misrepresentation of nuclear energy. 1) Nuclear Energy Technology is "dangerous". While this is true to some degree this is an extreme over simplification. The generation of nuclear power is actually the second safest form of power generation, only to be beaten by wind energy. 2) Nuclear Energy is "Ineffective". This is simply false nuclear energy is the most energy dense form of power production on the face of terra. There is no more effective form of power generation than that of nuclear power. In fact a single nuclear power plant in a single day produces as much power as a similar coal plant does in four months. 3) Nuclear Power "pollutes". While superficially true the total waste generated by a single nuclear power plant would take up the space of a single midsize sedan. That's not to mention that most of this supposed waste can be utilized as a fuel source for many fourth generation reactors. Making nuclear power less of a polluter than solar energy which produces thousands of tons of permanently toxic waste for a fraction of that output. So in short, I recommend Mr. Stevenson gets his fact straight before bring such an ill-informed proposal before parliament.
