History and Platform of the Socialist Party of Darnussia and Malivia

Section 1. History

The Socialist Party of Darnussia and Malivia is a party for the working class of Darnussia and Malivia.

The original Socialist Party had been founded by a group of socialist workers and intellectuals who were soon joined by members of the former Marxist Party, the Social Libertarian Party and people who defected from the other leftist political parties (Social Democrats, Chambers of Labour, but especially the old, now defunct Communist party of Darnussia).

The Socialist Party of Darnusssia and the Communist party of Darnussia decided some time after the founding of the Socialist Party that the two parties had much in common and ought to work together for their common goals. At first they were content to simply vote for these common goals in the form of bills, but prominent members of the Socialist Party of Darnussia suggested that the two parties merge to form a new party to further their common goals. Thus, the Popular Front was formed.

Its more recent name of 'The Workers' United Front' is a result of the expulsion of certain capitalist elements that had committed abuses including but not limited to: petty crimes, abuse of power and laziness and apathy. The members felt that they needed to make it clear that they were a workers' party and that they were united in the cause of socialism. The expelled members became 'The Libertarian Party'.

The Workers' United Front voted to rename the party to the Communist Party of Darnussia to symbolise that they would take the place of the old Communist party that had ceased to exist.

The Communist Party changed its name to the Socialist Party of Darnussia. This was so that the party could present itself as being for all Darnussians who wanted to achieve socialism, not just communists. More importantly, the party wished to return to its roots as Darnussia's original Socialist Party and it brought back its traditional name.

After the takeover of Darnussia by foreign monarchists who renamed the nation to Lusitania, the Socialist Party of Darnussia fled the nation along with a large portion of Darnussians. They made their new home in Malivia, where they were welcomed with open arms.

Section 2. Labour

The Socialist Party of Darnussia has, since its founding, been the unwavering voice of the proletariat and peasants in Darnussia. The Socialist Party will not hesitate to defend the interests of the workers and labourers of Darnussia.

Section 3. Economics

The Socialist Party of Darnussia seeks to implement socialism in Darnussia. One important document of socialism is the ten-point programme of Karl Marx as follows (it's actually rather moderate):

1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.

2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.

4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.

5. Centralisation of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.

6. Centralisation of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the state.

7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.

8. Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.

9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.

10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc.

This programme is not a rigid and unchanging programme, but rather a general guideline. It will be adapted to suit the specific needs of Darnussia. Furthermore, this is programme is only an immediate programme to help Darnussia transition from a capitalist economy to a socialist economy. Once we have made progress towards socialism, we will be able to put forth a programme to finish the transition to full socialism.

Section 5. Social Issues

The Socialist Party of Darnussia believes in a policy of social tolerance and justice. Here are our stances on a few issues:

Euthanasia- Legal to request euthanasia from a certified doctor, but applicant must be in adequate mental health (i.e. not clinically insane).

Sexual Orientation- Darnussians should be allowed to have any sexual orientation. We will defend the sexual rights of any such groups if their rights are infringed upon.

Drug Legalisation- A policy of tolerance and rehabilitation is needed. Recreational drugs will be fully legalised, but regulated and only obtainable with a doctor's written permission. Drug abuse (different from drug use) will be handled as a health problem, not a crime. Drug abusers will be rehabilitated by the government.

Section 6. Defence

The Socialist Party of Darnussia feels that Darnussia requires a strong defence to protect it from invasion, but we support a mainly defencive military rather than an overly aggressive military. Nuclear weapons are a necessity to defend our nation and we believe that, until (and unless) nuclear weapons are globally banned, Darnussia should have some (but not too many) nuclear weapons as a deterrent.

Section 7. Party Symbols

The Socialist Party of Darnussia's official symbol is the rose. Other unofficial party symbols sometimes used by Socialist Party supporters include the red star and the hammer and sickle. The party's official colour is dark red. Our official hymn is 'The Internationale', the international anthem of the proletariat.

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically
