Description[?]:
Overview: The 疑古派 (Yigupai), or Yigu Faction, is a political faction in Indrala of those within the scholar-official, gentry-merchant and student-intellectual classes, representing individuals who believe in iconoclasm and intellectually examining the traditional culture of Indrala. The Yigu Faction believes in ultimate loyalty to the monarchy, moderate liberal reformation, social egalitarianism and gradual women's liberation in traditional Indralan culture, as part of a political philosophy that aims to doubt and question antiquity and tradition, strengthening the power of the Imperial Court and the He Dynasty. Faction History: The Yigu Faction arguably became active as a result of intellectual awareness and discussion in the 新文化運動 or the New Culture Movement (3923-24), a period of mass politics and growing intellectual discourse in the way of iconoclasm of traditional Indralan culture and an increasing focus on vernacular literature and social egalitarian values. This clarion call of liberal reformation was led by prominent scholar-officials such as Duke Yuan Ling (3879-) and Duke Wu Shi (3877-) who rallied members of the scholar-official and gentry-merchant classes to form the Yigu Faction, a group of liberal reformists dedicated to moving Indrala in the direction of moderate social progressivism and social equality. Duke Yuan Ling founded the Yigu Faction in September 3924 and the faction is most prominent for being an intellectual faction, with intellectual writers on egalitarianism, feminism and vernacular literature. Besides Duke Yuan Ling, other prominent founding members of the faction Yigu Faction include Duke Wu Shi and middle-class merchant Liu Zhenglin (3874-). Duke Yuan Ling was famous for writing about the need to re-look traditional Jienism in his book The Story of Jienism and Cultural Iconoclasm (3923). Duke Wu Shi famously promoted feminism and women's liberation with his work Indralan Women and the Untold Tale (3924) and middle-class Liu Zhenglin famously argued for bigger government programs and welfare in his treatise Welfare and the Celestial Role (3924). The New Culture Movement was similarly characterised by the production of such intellectual works, including by top members of the Yigu Faction who supported and aided the Movement. While the leaders and members of the Yigu Faction are mostly from the scholar-gentry elites, the Yigu Faction's founding occurred amidst mass movements and politics involving industrial workers and numerous demonstrating student activists, gathering in throngs to call for socio-cultural reformation. Members of the Yigu Faction include liberal-minded members of the scholar-official and gentry-merchant classes, middle-class artisans and especially intellectuals and university students. Faction Ideology: The Yigu Faction is based on an broad-based, big-tent ideology of "doubting antiquity" or "new culture" surrounded by an iconoclasm of traditionalist Jienist philosophy. However, to be more specific, the Yigu ideology may be known as liberalism, social-progressivism or "people's socialism". The Yigu Faction believes that immigration is a net positive for Indralan society and that Indrala should aim to be culturally diverse and globally-connected. The Yigu scholar-officials believe in tough environmental regulations and the role of the Imperial Court in regulating damaging corporations. The Yigu ideology enshrines individual freedom and the power of personal change in one's life, as well as socio-cultural reformation and iconoclasm. This especially includes equality and liberation for Indralan women, including legalising adultery and granting women equal access to free divorce, military service and a ban on arranged marriages. Finally, the Yigu Faction also believes in stronger welfare, healthcare and education spending for all citizens, and stronger trade unions and a minimum wage to aid Indralan workers and their welfare. |

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically |
