Description[?]:
The Luthori Democratic League was formed in the mid 4780s as opposition to what was seen as an authoritarian socialist government. The League is not a party in the traditional sense, but was founded by a group of right wing social democratic politicians with the aim of being a popular mass membership organisation that could propel them to power. The road to power was not as straight forward as the founders would have liked, and towards the end of the decade the influence of the League was surpassed by other rising forces in Luthori politics. Nevertheless, by the 4790s the League had found a niche and had attracted a modest base of support, mostly from the urban middle classes and elements of the business community. Attempts had been made to reform the League into an actual political party, but this was hampered by the fact that it's internal politics were dominated by factionalism, with strong opposing views meaning progress on this front was almost non existent. The extremely lose structure of the organisation meant that virtually anyone could join, so in practice the League had no binding core values beyond republicanism, pro-capitalism and the wish for democratic reform. |
