| The Social Reform Party is a centre left party with socialist roots which stands for a mixed economy, progressive taxation, federalism, social liberalism and pacifism. Is current chairman is Willem Engels It was founded in August 3426 at a meeting between prominent leftists from all over Vanuku in Wiel. A federalized party structure was decided upon with party leaders elected at the national, federal state and community level. The party made a strong debut at the March 2028 federal elections garnering 84 out of 225 seats on 38% of the vote. Despite its apparent coherency, the party is deeply factionalised into three main groups. The first is the old style socialists who favour a 'much bigger state' and are cool on federalism. The second are the social liberals, who are centrist on economic issues but staunchly socially liberal and pro-federalism. This is the largest of the groups. The last group is that of the agrarian populists. These favour large subsidies to farmers and a strong welfare state but are moderately social conservatives. It is the smallest of the great factions. Other smaller factions include the 'left of the left', Christian left and some centre-right dissidents. |
