Description[?]:
The Liberal Party was founded in March 5002 by James Cade and his uncle Alexander. The party believes in an open, tolerant and fair society and extending equal opportunities to all citizens of Rutania. Founding member James Cade was elected the parties first Chairman with Alexander being elected Deputy Chairman and the parties spokesperson on foreign affairs. The parties first electoral test was 5003 congressional elections where the party gained 0.04% of the vote and failed to gain a seat. The party chose not to nominate a candidate for the presidential election. In preparation for the 5009 congressional elections the party named Chairman James Cade as their lead candidate for congress and Melody Sinclair as their presidential candidate. The party made their electoral breakthrough in the 5009 congressional elections with a landslide victory. Melody Sinclair was elected with a resounding 99.95% of the vote and the congressional candidates received 99.92% of the vote to claim all 250 seats in congress. The election leaves the Liberal party as the only party represented in congress following the collapse of the Wigs, Libertarian Conservative and Democratic Socialist parties and the only remaining active party, the Socials, failing to gain representation. James Cade was confirmed as the parties first Prime Minister and the party began to enact a series of reforms such as shorting the executive term of office and expanding the size of the congress. In February 5011, having secured its reforms to the constitution and political system, the Liberal party called for early elections. The Liberals lost 37 seats and secured 42.4% of the vote in the 5011 snap elections to claim 213 seats in the newly expanded congress and moved into opposition. Melody Sinclair was defeated in her attempt to win reelection as president. Cade's decision to call an election was criticised but he ultimately maintained the confidence of the party and continued as leader. In the snap election of 5013 which the government called, the Liberals secured 43.6% of the vote and 21 seats, a net gain of 5 and Melody Sinclair failed to regain the presidency. Despite gaining seats, following the election, James Cade stood down as party chairman. Deputy Chairman Alexander Cade was elected as his replacement beating shadow justice secretary Jack Barnes and Gideon Oswald, Cade subsequently assumed the role of Leader of the Opposition, shadow defence secretary Ulrich Snyder was appointed Deputy Chairman and Gideon Oswald assumped the shadow foreign secretary brief. **The Liberal Part of Rutania is not related to any party that previously held the same name. |

Random fact: Particracy does not allow real-life brand names (eg. Coca Cola, McDonalds, Microsoft). However, in the case of military equipment brand names it is permitted to use simple number-letter combinations (eg. T-90 and F-22) borrowed from real life, and also simple generic names, like those of animals (eg. Leopard and Jaguar). |
Random quote: "It is said, 'Pontesi is Jelbic in nature'. But I tell you, they are really a lost tribe of Selucians, forced to become barbarians by their savage Jelbic conquerors." - Alamar Xarfaxis, former Pontesian politician |
