Description[?]:

*if you’re a new player with a Question about something or you want to see something added to this guide – please feel free to contact Gobbleke or Zanz and we’ll get it added!

Firstly; WELCOME to Solentia.

Solentia is a Roleplay-rich, engaging democracy that is very welcoming of new players. Our nation has a RP history that stretches back over a thousand years. As such, we ask that new players read this guide to get a glimpse into what type of culture we have built and how best to settle in.

We ask that players who want to make their own mark on the nation, which is extremely encouraged, be respectful of the work that has gone over the past few real life years into creating this online world. We hope you learn to love Solentian culture as much as we do!

-- MILLENNIAL REPUBLIC --

So how come Solentia is a Millennial Republic? Well we weren’t always. Solentia started as a “Federal Republic” following an overthrow of a dictatorship. A former cleric, named Father George Bailen, founded the Federal Republic and set-up many of the political institutions that we have today. There have been a few lapses in our time but the same system has largely been left to flourish!
The Millennial Republic was formed following the Federal Republic’s 1000 Anniversary, to celebrate that we’ve protected our heritage for so long! We see it as a symbol of unity and it’s something most of our players are very proud of.

-- SUPREME PRESIDENT --

How come we have a “Supreme” President?
When the Federal Republic was founded, the players wanted to put a fair amount of power into the role, that went beyond game mechanics. The title Supreme President was derived from the previous title held by Father George Bailen, Supreme Archbishop. Father Bailen felt, after his party overthrew the communist dictatorship, that Solentia was becoming too enthralled by the Xzarin Church, which his party represented. He made the somewhat unpopular decision, against the will of his own party, to demand the secularization of the nascent Solentian government. It was important at that time that the leader of the nation was strong, so as to guide us following dictatorship. Thus the Supreme Presidency was born. The title has survived largely untouched.

--SENATE WARDEN vs. LORD PROTECTOR --

So why does our Government has two titles for it’s Head of Government? There was a lapse in the Federal Republic’s history when we became a monarchy. In order to get a consensus for monarchy, the royalists needed to convince the Unionists for support. As a compromise, they appointed a Lord Protector to “guard” the people from the power of the King.

Then the republican faction tried to restore the Federal Republic. But the monarchists managed to hold-on to a half-government. The King fled the nation. Solentia was split into two; the Federal Republic led by the Supreme President in HALION, and the Protectorate government led by the Lord Protector in ALYA. – This era is known as Dual Governance” and is an important part of our history.

When the Federal Republic was fully restored, the Head of Government was called the Senate Warden once again. Later on, the title Lord Protector was pushed by many factions as a way of continuing to protect the people from Supreme Presidential authority. In modern times, both titles are used.

--LEADS --

Some parties in Solentia started using the title “Legislative Lead” about 200 years ago. It grew into something common for parties to have a character appointed as their Lead in the Senate. During the restoration of the Federal Republic, the Restorationist faction changed the names of the Ministers to a list of Leads, so reflect this tradition.

-- NOBILITY --

You’ll notice some people in Solentia use titles. This started as a very controversial issue. It was called the “Social Incentive” and was viwed by some as a method of rewarding characters who had served the nation well. Over time, some factions grew to agree on this, whilst some disapproved. It’s still a hot topic and there is no agreed consensus. You should feel free to engage with this aspect of this culture to whatever extent you wish!

-- EXECTIVE ORDERS --

There was an agreement made both OOC and IC between players a long time ago that the Supreme President should have certain powers that the game engine doesn’t allow for. So there was a Bill passed that laid out the rules about it and if and when a Supreme President can issue one! More information on this can be found here; http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=325334

-- NAMES --

You’ll notice a mix of names in Solentia. Most of our characters have either an English name, an English name that’s slightly altered, or an Arabic/Islamic name. This is to reflect our location in the south of the contintent. The continent of Majatra is full of Majatrans (Arabs) and the majority religion is Queranzariah (Islam). So we have an element of that mixed with our own identities.

REMEMBER; All of this is meant to help you. We want you to be confident in joining in Solentian life and Roleplay and we want you to feel you can make a mark on our history and heritage without stepping on toes. The best way to do this is to read the above, bare in mind the work people have put in and then decide what direction you want Solentia to go NEXT.

So once again, WELCOME to Solentia. :)

Helpful Hints:
-------------------
1). Bills which are sent to vote will be kicked back to debate phase if an election occurs before the voting phase has completed. Most votes take 8 months to complete, though some are shorter, so check when the next election is before sending your bill to vote, or you'll have to do it over again!

2). Cabinet proposals require BOTH every party included in the cabinet to support the proposal AND more than half of the legislature to support the proposal, regardless of abstentions, etc. If the legislature has 100 seats, every party included in the proposal must support AND the total votes in support of the bill must be 51 or more, not the usual simple minority.

3). For the sake of neatness, please keep the nation's legislation docket as clear as possible. If you want something archived, send it to vote; it will be preserved forever and cleared off of the nation page. The fewer bills left in debate phase, the less scrolling and searching we all have to do.

4). When speaking from your own perspective and not that of your party, remember to always mark your posts as OOC: ("Out of Character"). Posts that are unmarked are assumed to be IC: ("In Character") and can be misinterpreted if they are incorrectly marked.

MessageWikia is fine, and I'm all for it's revision, but to be honest, it's much easier and quicker for new parties to locate something on the front page, in my opinion.

MessageSolentia was originally colonized by Telamon:
http://www.takeforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4484&highlight=solentia&mforum=particracy

However much of the population is also of Majatran descent. This is sometimes reflected in the names. Makes sense considering Kafuristan is next door. Religions in Solentia have included Nuncirism, Islam, Xzarian-Catholic, Solentian-Orthodox, not sure of others.

Under the current situation I personally assume that the state religion in place is mostly just a vague national amalgam since there is no compulsory membership.

I don't think the Telemonian link was ever played on much, then again Solentia is about as interractive on the international scene as .. well it's just not. I don't have an analogy.

MessageI suppose the Solentian Orthodox would have broken away later. It's only been rp'd by my party, anyway, but there are other Orthodox churches in other countries. Thanks for the link. That's interesting.

MessageNow that I look at that Telemon link closer, it looks like we actually were colonized by Aloria, doesn't it?

Random quote: "Capitalism demands the best of every man- his rationality- and rewards him accordingly. It leaves every man free to choose the work he likes, to specialize in it, to trade his product for the products of others, and to go as far on the road of achievement as his ability and ambition will carry him." - Ayn Rand
