| Message | Madam Speaker, in the previous Senate we served an honourable and principled government alongside the Conservatives. Yet, in its dying months, the principled differences between our two parties were clear and growing apart. The snap election has produced a majority of one for the Tories and Reformists, and we will not stand in the way of them forming a Cabinet. In doing so, we will continue to support adequate policies of moderate marketisation, expansion of freedom and democracy. I hope the new government will treat its razor-thin majority carefully, and above all not walk over the civil rights of the people. The Reform Party must play its moderating role, as the Liberals did, in exercising effective control of the most radical wing of the Tory benches. |
