OVERVIEW The Demokratische Zentrumspartei, or Democratic Centre Party, is a Hulstrian and Gao-Soton political party. While on social issues, it leans towards social liberalism, it supports centrism in the economic sphere. The DZP believes that a market economy can and must co-exist with a compassionate, humane society, and also believes in the fundamental worth of each and every individual. The DZP advocates practical solutions instead of adherence to either left-wing or right-wing ideologies, and is willing to compromise and co-operate with parties across the political spectrum if it is in the interests of the Hulstrian and Gao-Soton people. Military - weapons of mass destruction and landmines should be eliminated. - defence industries should be privately owned by subsidised. - homosexuals should be able to serve openly in the military. - shelters should be the responsibility of local governments. - discrimination in the military should not be permitted. - the government should maintain a full-time military. - there should not be conscription. - paramilitaries should remain banned. - prisoners of war should be treated humanely and respectfully. - arms sales should be permitted on a case-by-case basis. Health - abortion should be legal and subsidised. - alcohol should be legal for adults. - euthanasia should be legal with a court order. - companies should be required to accurately label food and health products. - there should be a public healthcare system. - the government should enforce health and safety regulations. - the cost of pharmaceutical drugs should be subsidised for the poor. - tobacco should be legal for adults. Economy - the government should operate an independent central bank. - child labour should be allowed with extra regulation. - collective bargaining should be legal. - energy companies should be publicly owned. - the exchange rate should float, with government intervention permitted. - employers should be able to fire those who stike unreasonably. - foreign investors should be allowed to invest in national companies. - gambling should be legal but regulated. - major businesses should be subsidised if they are at risk of collapsing. - trade unions should be legal, and membership voluntary. - there should not be a salary cap. - the government should set a minimum wage at a "living wage" level. - monopolies should be actively broken up. - phone service providers should be private but regulated. - pornography should be legal for adults. - affirmative action should not be regulated. - prostitution should be legal. - the sale of recreational drugs should be heavily regulated. - secondary strike action should only be allowed for closely related unions. - stock exchanges should be legal but regulated. - strike action should require a ballot with a majority of those voting in favour. - the government should not intervene with regards to DWCs. Media - government subsidised radio and TV stations should co-exist with private ones. - the internet should be available for all. - it should be illegal to publish false information. - sexually explicit material on TV should be legal at all times of the day. - content ratings should be attached to video games. Civil Liberties - adoption should be open to all but strictly regulated. - adultery should be legal. - segregation should be banned. - crowds should only be disperse when there is a threat to the public. - bestiality should be illegal. - weapons should have to be carried openly. - divorces should be legal in all cases. - foreign marriages should be recognised except in cases of duress or deceit. - individuals should be able to own firearms with strict licence conditions. - inheritance should be by the will of the deceased, with limited regulation. - inter-racial sex and marriage should be legal. - the confidentiality of correspondance should only be violated in extreme situations. - the printing and speaking of malicious falsehoods should be legal. - all consenting adults should be able to marry. - public nudity should be allowed. - polygamy and monogamy should be accorded equal recognition. - the government should not engage in population control. - sexual relations of all types should be legal for all consenting adults. - slavery should be strictly banned. - only certain types of weapons should be available to the public. - women are equal to men. Foreign Policy - foreign diplomats should have diplomatic immunity. - embassies should be permitted with Foreign Ministry permission. - passports should be given to citizens after a cursory security check. - high levels of international aid should be given to countries in need. - all refugees should be welcomed and assisted. - border controls should be minimal. Infrastructure - eminent domain should be illegal. - public and private power stations should co-exist. - local governments should be responsible for maintaining fire departments. - national highways should be maintained by the national government. - local highways should be maintained by local governments. - public and private post agencies should co-exist. - public transport should be subsidised for the poor. - the government should contract with private corporations for public works. - the government should encourage sustainable energy research with subsidies. - the government should operate a national TOC; private companies may operate theirs.
