Nation[?]: República Federativa Tukarense (Tukarali)

Seats[?] in Assembleia da Republica Federativa - (Federal Assembly)[?]: 0

Color[?]:

Description[?]:

Formed in January 4261 after a variety of conservative organisations and dissidents from the União Democrática Tukarêse and the defunct Partido Tukaralii came together to create a new right-wing movement in Tukarali. Since August 4268 the PN have been the principle party of government, maintaining a position as the largest party and winning most Presidential elections during the period.

Following corruption scandals and an anti-establishment mood in the country at the large along with generous financial support from backers, the National Party secured significant support in the November 4264 legislative and executive elections, taking over 40% of the vote in the legislature and party leader Afonso de Albuquerque was elected as President with over 60% of the vote in the second round.

The National Party has three primary political factions which are organised as parties within a party. The Social Hosian faction is a socially conservative movement closely aligned with Hosian Churches in Tukarali. The Progressive faction is a libertarian faction that focuses largely on securing economically liberal policies. Finally the Republican movement has a National Conservative platform, advocating hard line law and order policies combined with isolationist and anti-immigrant sentiment. The three factions overlap is many areas.

Afonso de Albuquerque was reelected with 59.2% of the vote in presidential elections in May 4268 and the PN suffered a loss of seven seats in the National Assembly, however much of this was to the right-wing National Social Democratic Party (PSDN). The PN and PSDN were able to form a coalition government in August 4268, the first with the PN in government. The government fell in June 4271, following the loss of 13 seats, although the PN remained the largest party in Tukarali. The PN Presidential candidate, Chancellor Álvares de Almeida was defeated in the Head of State elections.

Following its losses, and under leadership of former Foreign Secretary Nadia Maszowska the PN went through a period of opposition in which it was largely successful in its efforts to protect the legislation that it had pushed through during its period of governance. It entered the 4274 elections in high spirits and gained over seven million votes and 26 seats, finishing with a 44.26% share of the vote and 80 seats in the legislature. The PN renewed its coalition arrangements with the PSDN with Nadia Maszowska as the Chancellor (the PN did not run a Presidential candidate in 4274, backing the successful PSDN candidate). The 4277 election was a mixed success for the PN. Nadia Maszowska was elected as President, but only narrowly with just over half of the vote. The PN had net losses of seven seats, although the PN and the PSDN together only secured 87 seats, one short of a majority. However the new Partido Libertador entered a coalition with the PN and the PSDN with the PNs new leader Victor Fidalgo as chancellor.

In October 4288 the PN had their greatest triumph securing 56% of the vote and an absolute majority in the National Assembly, forming a new single party government in March 4289. By this stage the PN had been in government for over 14 years consecutively, and for a total of 17 of the previous 20 years. With the new found majority the party took a lurch to the right and implemented new legislation designed to make Tukarali a stronger country, specifically targeting the Pretro population.

=Pedro Álvares de Almeida Government =

From August 4268 the PN (67 seats) formed their first coalition government in conjunction with the PSDN (23 seats), taking the lions share of cabinet positions as the senior coalition partner.

The government enjoyed a majority of five. During its term in office it was able to reorganise Tukarali's finances, implementing a new simplified income tax system. A National Church was established and successful efforts were made to increase regional recognition of Tukarali's Neutrality. Tukarali was pushed in a more socially conservative and economically liberal direction. This period of office also witnessed a return of debating to the National Assembly which has not occurred for a while. The government fell in June 4271.
