Nation[?]: Empire of Ananto and Kalistan (Kalistan)
Seats[?] in National Assembly of Deputies[?]: 0
Color[?]:
Description[?]:
In recognition of the will of the people of Kalistan, and in recognition of the cooperative attitudes of the mainstream Kalistani party, The Party of the Opposition hereby publishes this attestation of official party positions and attitudes. Due to our newfound place in the mainstream of Kalistani politics, the Party of the Opposition hereby recognizes that blind opposition and open hostility are no longer productive. The people of Kalistan desire for our party to take a leadership role in this nation, and we need to recognize this. To this end,w e renounce hostile rhetoric in the production and debate of legislation. To this end of taking our rightful place in Kalistani government, we hereby publish this list of official party stances, recognizing that blind opposition does not make for a productive political platform. Administration: The party has no desire to change traditional Kalistani culture. Military: The party desires a strong national defense, with no potential advantage left unexploited. However, this strong military presence must be balanced against the individual rights of the person. Health: The party recognizes the need for certain basic public health institutes and that the government has a duty to protect its citizens. However, the party holds that the government should not be financially responsible for the discretionary medical expenses of its citizens. Economics: The party is decidedly free-market, seeking to reinforce the rights of the individual in the market against the tyranny of the collective. The party also believes that the market should not be manipulated to punish the achievement of the individual. Justice: The party believes in a firm but just system, with a high emphasis on the preservation of the rights of the individual. Education: The party believes in a strong educational system, with national content standards to secure basic competency. However, these standards should be skills-focused, not content-focused, to allow for local discretion in the system. Media: The party believes in a free and accessible media with minimal state interference. Nothing should exist to prevent people from profiting from privately held media entities. Culture: The party believes that the state should support the state's culture, and the creators of said culture. Simultaneously, the state should not be the only source of support for cultural movers. Science: The party believes in tempering science with an eye towards the public welfare. Technology: The party believes technology is the future of Kalistan, but this motive must be balanced by the recognition that economic achievement is a motivator for technological achievement. Ecology: The party believes in reasonable, responsible use and maintenance of the environment. Agriculture: The party believes that agriculture is an important sector for personal economic achievement, but this achievement must be tempered with an eye towards the future. Civil Liberties: The party is against restrictions of civil liberties, except as they infringe on the rights of fellow men. Foreign Policy: The party believes Kalistan is Kalistan's first responsibility. While all people are welcome in Kalistan, Kalistan's own attentions should turn inward. Additionally, the party is against any external attempts to dictate law to Kalistan. Kalistan should be governed by Kalistanis alone. Infrastructure: The party believes in government construction and maintenance for the good of the country, but also in allowing private companies to invest in infrastructure as well. Welfare: The party is not opposed to welfare, but believes it should be limited in scope, and if possible, in cost. Religion: The party believes in the free and unlimited exercise of all religions. In recognition of this change, the Party of the Opposition will change its name to The Party of Sovereignty, Economy, and Egality. The SEE Party was founded in 3730 by a coalition of disgruntled students and entrepreneurs. Tired of the socialist policies of traditional Kalistani parties, these groups formed a political party of radicals with little guidance. This original group was quickly subsumed by a group of power-hungry government attorneys, who saw the untrained, unrefined energy of this mob as a vehicle to power they couldn't otherwise obtain. This organization was the Party of the Law. This phase of the organization saw little traction, with no legislative victories or even seats gained. In the early 3740s, the radical element forming the party's power base rebelled against the hijackers, regaining control of the party, and rebranding itself the Party of the Opposition. Through rhetoric of anger, protests, and militia demonstrations, they successfully got their message out, placing their leader, John G. Roberts, into the presidency in 3744. This rhetoric, although effective at getting the message out, was ineffective at creating change, resulting in slow growth and an inability to retain gains made. After a failed presidential run in 3753 which was marred by several violent demonstrations, including one particularly distasteful incident in the Chamber of Deputies, John G. Roberts implored the party to change, lest they lose what little they had gained. The party responded, rejecting violence as a political tool and rebranding itself as the SEE Party. After the gains in the election of 3759, the SEE Party found itself in the majority for the first time ever. Unfortunately, the celebration was short-lived as former President John G. Roberts would perish not long after the elections. Today, the SEE Party retains its militia, as a gesture to its roots and its contribution to Kalistan's defense. But the militia wing is separate from the political wing. The SEE Party now seeks productive change through dialogue, not damage. |
