Description[?]:
Life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. But it doesn’t have to be. When Hobbes first wrote the Leviathan, he saw a nation poised on the brink of mob rule, a government that would soon be hostage to the most base fears and wants of a uneducated, self interested population. Hobbes conceived of a government whose authority would be absolute, and who would stand, like the leviathan, as the guardian on the border of hell, the last defense against descent into chaos and a perpetual state of war. Time has proven Hobbes wrong on many counts, but time has also shown the merits of many of his ideas as well. For too many, life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, or short, though the machines of production that man has created have the capacity to leave no human in need. These shortfalls, which are now intentional on the part of those that control the polity and the economy, exist because we have become dogmatically democratic, obsessed with giving people a ‘voice,’ even when they have no right to the authority they are granted. We do not allow random citizens have a say in the medical profession because only doctors have the skills and education to make those specific decisions. Yet we are left with economic theorists who leave the means of production in the hands of either the rich, who are granted wealth by virtue of their birth and are never held accountable for their failures, or who want democratic control of the economy, leaving our most powerful productive assets in the hands of the same chaotic process that has failed us so many times before. The Leviathan Party is for a rational application of democratic principles. People should have control of their own community, but local control should not allow a community to hold others hostage, nor to allow a community be forced to accept tyranny of the majority. The economy should be turned over to planning boards, which will serve to assess need, production capacity, and then plan future production to meet needs and raise capacity. These planning boards will be local, regional and national; the more centralized boards will not have autocratic authority over more local boards, but will instead operate to coordinate the more local boards, mitigating conflicts and planning on the larger scale. Businesses that operate only in one community will answer to their local planning board, which keeps community business controlled by the community. Businesses that operate in more than one community will answer to regional planning boards but local political bodies; the same applies to the regional and national levels. This program will end the chaos of market economies but prevent the failure of command economies by building production decisions from the ground up, rather than from a single central, and distant, authority. The Leviathan Party is for the guaranteeing to all citizens, regardless of employment, age, or any other characteristic, adequate food, housing, clothing, education and healthcare. We are also for the primacy of economic production over other concerns to provide for the material needs of our people. Only after all citizens are provided their basic needs should we turn to less pressing concerns. We are also against the extremist and alarmist rhetoric regarding many environmental issues that do not pose any substantive or material threat to our long term way of life. Among these are recycling, which uses more energy than it saves, ending logging, since most commercial logging is done in forests specifically planted for logging, genetically modified food, which has not once been proven to have any negative side effects, and urban development, which is necessary in order to provide housing for a still growing population. |

Random quote: "The European Union and environmental advocacy groups use global warming hysteria to advance their own special agendas. The European Union recognizes any significant reduction in CO2 emissions by the United States will significantly reduce its economic output, thereby bringing it closer to the inferior output of European nations. Environmental advocacy groups work to stifle economic and industrial progress wherever they find it to inhibit the successful advancement of peoples in developing nations, inevitably making mankind a second class citizen of planet Earth." - Dr. Jay Lehr |
