Description[?]:
=Background The Republican Party is a Hosian democratic, socially conservative, largely agrarian based and economically populist party registered in February 4422 (eight months prior to the planned elections of October 4422) and drawing together various conservative movements. The party gained over 7.5 million votes in its first election outing, taking 72 seats in the Presidium. The Republican endorsement of the Liberal Progressives Presidential candidate was also decisive in the success of that candidate in that election. =Foundation= The Republicans were formed at a critical time for conservative organisations in Lodamun when a number of leftist legislative items were due to pass. A lack of an effective conservative party prevented adequate opposition to the legislation. - Attacks on religion - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=575077 - The abolition of homeschooling - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=575392 - Restrictions on gun ownership - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=575253 - Obscene morality - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=575254 =Leadership In July 4425 Francis Young took over as leader from the party founder Thomas McDonald who had narrowly won a vote of no confidence and then resigned. Unlike his predecessor Young supported a populist platform promising greater greater economic intervention in the lives of Lodamese citizens. In May 4428 Francis Young was elected President and Regina Miller was elected as leader of the Republican Party. She once again pushed the party in a pro-free market direction. |

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
Random quote: "The main problem of the left is that it has been traditionally divided and unable to reach agreements between different leftist views, whilst the right has almost always moved in the same direction by giving concessions to different rightist points of view." - Aelius Celer, former Selucian politician |
